The Commander

Flying

{2}{W/U}: Attacking creatures with flying get +1/+1 until end of turn. ({W/U} can be paid with either {W} or {U}.)

Whenever three or more creatures you control with flying attack, each player gains control of a nonland permanent of your choice controlled by the player to their right.

Guide

Gameplan

Inniaz is a UW flyers-tribal commander that pumps your evasive team and forces a multiplayer game of musical chairs—when three+ flyers attack, every player passes a nonland permanent of your choice to the player on their left (donating from the right). You flood the board with flying tokens, attack to trigger the steal, and use it to grab opponents' bombs while foisting your worthless tokens onto them. Win by going wide in the air with anthems or by stealing the right pieces to dominate.

Strengths

  • Repeatable political theft can strip every opponent of their best permanent each turn
  • Easy to enable—any three flyers attacking triggers the global control swap
  • Strong anthem/go-wide synergy with cheap, evasive token producers
  • Built-in pump activation makes combat math punishing
  • UW gives access to premium flyers, board protection, and counters

Weaknesses

  • The steal is symmetrical and forces a permanent onto each player to their left, which can accidentally help an opponent
  • Relatively fragile—removal on Inniaz slows the engine considerably
  • Token-heavy boards fold to wraths and sweepers
  • Limited interaction with graveyards and ramp compared to other colors
  • Needs creatures to stick and connect, so flyer hate or fogs blunt the plan

Key Cards

  • Sephara, Sky's Blade — Anthem and indestructibility for your flyers, protecting the attacking team that triggers Inniaz.
  • Brave the Sands — Vigilance lets your flyers attack to trigger Inniaz while staying back to block.
  • Favorable Winds — Cheap flyers anthem that pushes your token army's damage and survivability.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates mana to repeatedly pay Inniaz's pump cost and cast threats while ramping in UW.
  • Followed Footsteps — Copies your best token-maker or stolen permanent for a snowballing board.
  • Spectral Adversary — Flexible flash flyer that makes spirit tokens and protects key pieces via phasing.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient token engines and anthems (Bennie Bracks, Intangible Virtue, Master of Flight) plus cheap evasive bodies to hit the three-flyer trigger reliably. Lean into theft payoffs and sacrifice outlets so donated permanents become assets, and tighten the manabase with duals, Smothering Tithe, and protection like Heroic Intervention-style UW options (Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuver). For higher power, incorporate a compact win such as Approach of the Second Sun or a flyers overrun via Coat of Arms.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Going wide in the air with anthems and the +1/+1 activation for lethal flying damage
  • ▸Stealing opponents' key threats and turning their own permanents against them
  • ▸Grinding value with repeated control swaps until you out-resource the table
  • ▸Assembling a flyers swarm backed by board-protection to close out a long game

Archetypes

  • Flyers Tribal — Inniaz directly rewards attacking with multiple flyers and pumps the whole evasive team.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Spirit, bird, and angel tokens easily reach the three-flyer threshold while feeding sacrifice fodder to donate away.
  • Politics / Theft — The control-swap trigger lets you grab opponents' bombs and weaponize forced gifts diplomatically.
  • Group Slug Control — UW staples plus the steal engine let you control the board while chipping in for evasive damage.
