BuildCard details

The Commander

You may reveal the first card you draw each turn as you draw it. Whenever you reveal an instant or sorcery card this way, create Cherubael, a legendary 4/4 black Demon creature token with flying.

Whenever Inquisitor Eisenhorn deals combat damage to a player, investigate that many times. (Create a Clue token. It's an artifact with "{2}, Sacrifice this token: Draw a card.")

Guide

Gameplan

Eisenhorn rewards a high density of instants and sorceries: reveal the top card on your draw step (or via extra-draw effects) and flip a 4/4 flying Demon, Cherubael, into play. Connect with Eisenhorn in combat to investigate for a pile of Clues, refueling your hand and bleeding the table while your spells keep the board under control. You grind value, build a wide Demon-and-Clue engine, and close with evasive beaters or card-advantage-fueled combo.

Strengths

  • Free 4/4 fliers off spells you were casting anyway
  • Strong card advantage from Clues plus reveal triggers
  • Deep UB interaction suite (counters, removal, recursion)
  • Flexible: works as control, spellslinger, or aristocrats fodder generator

Weaknesses

  • Cherubael generation depends on hitting instants/sorceries on the very first draw each turn
  • Eisenhorn must connect in combat to investigate, and he's fragile and removal-prone
  • No native protection or evasion on the commander himself
  • Token engine is slow to snowball without extra-draw enablers

Key Cards

  • Brainstorm — Manipulates your top card so your first draw each turn is reliably an instant/sorcery for Cherubael triggers.
  • Sensei's Divining Top — Lets you set up the top card to reveal a spell and convert draws into Demon tokens.
  • Mystic Remora — Cheap repeatable extra draws stack with the reveal trigger to make more Demons.
  • Rhystic Study — Generates the extra draws that fuel reveal triggers while building card advantage.
  • Whispersilk Cloak — Makes Eisenhorn unblockable so combat damage reliably triggers Investigate every turn.
  • Reconnaissance — Protects your attackers and guarantees Eisenhorn's combat-damage Investigate trigger connects.

Upgrade Path

Maximize cheap cantrips and top-deck manipulation (Brainstorm, Ponder, Sensei's Divining Top, Scroll Rack) so your first draw is almost always a spell. Add repeatable extra-draw engines like Howling Mine effects you control or Teferi's Puzzle Box variants, plus evasion (Whispersilk Cloak, Rogue's Passage) to guarantee Investigate. To spike the power level, lean into an aristocrats payoff package (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Ashnod's Altar) that turns your endless tokens into a kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with a swarm of 4/4 flying Cherubael Demons
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects sacrificing Demons and Clues
  • ▸Commander damage plus evasion from Eisenhorn himself
  • ▸Spellslinger combo/control finish backed by overwhelming card advantage

Archetypes

  • Spellslinger — A high instant/sorcery count directly converts into a stream of 4/4 flying Demons.
  • Control — UB counters and removal protect Eisenhorn while every reveal builds your board.
  • Aristocrats — Cherubael tokens and Clue artifacts are abundant fodder for sacrifice-and-drain engines.
  • Tokens — Stacking draw effects turns each turn into multiple Demon and Clue tokens to go wide.
