Gameplan

Inquisitor Greyfax is an Esper midrange/control commander that builds a wide, vigilant board while grinding card advantage through Clue tokens. You deploy creatures and artifact value engines, use Greyfax's tap ability to lock down key blockers or attackers each turn, then push through with an anthem-buffed, vigilant army or pivot to an artifact/token payoff. The Clues fuel a long grind game where you out-resource the table and close with combat or artifact synergies.

Strengths

  • Repeatable card advantage via Investigate that also functions as removal-light board control by tapping threats
  • Anthem (+1/+0 and vigilance) lets your team attack and defend simultaneously, dominating combat
  • Esper colors give access to the format's best removal, board wipes, and tutors
  • Clue tokens synergize with artifact, sacrifice, and improvise payoffs
  • Vigilance on Greyfax keeps her tapping threats while still attacking

Weaknesses

  • The +1/+0 anthem is small and doesn't help survive board wipes
  • Greyfax's tap ability is slow, one-target-per-turn defense against go-wide aggro
  • Mana-hungry: ramp plus Clue cracking ({2} each) strains the curve
  • Lacks an inherent game-ending combo, so games can drag without a finisher
  • Three-color manabase and reliance on the commander make her removal a real setback

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Smothering Tithe) so you can both cast threats and crack Clues in the same turn, and prioritize token doublers (Anointed Procession, Mondrak) plus Academy Manufactor for explosive value. Tighten the deck with premium Esper removal and a board wipe suite, then add a compact win condition such as a Krark-Clan Ironworks loop or an aristocrats package to convert your token glut into a kill instead of relying on slow combat.
