The Commander

Guide

Gameplan

Jasmine Boreal is a vanilla 4/4 for five, so she contributes no abilities—she's a color-identity vessel for a Selesnya goodstuff strategy. You ignore the commander as an engine and instead build a powerful GW deck around tokens, +1/+1 counters, or value creatures, deploying threats and grinding board advantage until you overwhelm the table. Use her as a body to chip in or carry equipment when nothing better is happening.

Strengths

  • Access to the best ramp and mana fixing in green plus white's removal and protection
  • GW token and go-wide strategies are deep, redundant, and resilient
  • Cheap commander to recast and can serve as an early beater or Voltron shell
  • No reliance on commander text means the deck functions even when she's removed

Weaknesses

  • Commander provides zero value, card advantage, or evasion on her own
  • GW lacks card draw and interaction with the stack compared to other pairs
  • No built-in win condition forces you to assemble it from the 99
  • Vanilla body is easily outclassed and rarely worth protecting

Key Cards

  • Smothering Tithe — Premier white ramp that fixes GW's mana-advantage problem and snowballs Treasure.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Turns any token or creature deck into an explosive board-wide pump engine.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles tokens and counters, the two pillars most Jasmine decks lean on.
  • Esper Sentinel — Rare white card-advantage engine that papers over the color pair's weakest stat.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — The default finisher that converts a wide GW board into lethal damage.

Upgrade Path

Lean into a single focused engine—tokens or counters—and add doublers (Doubling Season, Parallel Lives) plus payoff finishers rather than scattered goodstuff. Patch the color pair's weak spots with white card advantage (Esper Sentinel, Welcoming Vampire) and fast ramp (Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, mana dorks). Since the commander adds nothing, consider whether a more synergistic GW legend would serve your build better, and treat Jasmine as a pure 99-driven deck.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun effects like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede for a one-shot alpha strike
  • ▸Going wide with tokens behind anthems and Cathars' Crusade
  • ▸Voltron commander damage with stacked equipment and auras
  • ▸Grinding incremental value until the board is unbeatable

Archetypes

  • Tokens — GW is the premier go-wide pair with anthems, populate, and token doublers.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Selesnya offers strong counter synergies and proliferate-adjacent payoffs to grow a board.
  • Voltron — A 4/4 body can carry auras and equipment with white's protection to swing for commander damage.
  • Midrange Goodstuff — Without commander text, you can simply jam the best GW ramp, removal, and threats.
