BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever a Zombie or Mutant you control dies, if its power was different from its base power, draw a card.

Come Fly With Me — {2}, Sacrifice a creature: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. It gains flying until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Build a mono-blue Zombie/Mutant tribal engine that pumps creatures with +1/+1 counters, then sacrifices them (or lets them die in combat/blocks) to draw cards via Jason's trigger. You grind out card advantage while flying over for damage, eventually overwhelming with counters or comboing into a finisher.

Strengths

  • Repeatable card draw in mono-blue, a color that loves refuel
  • Built-in sacrifice outlet that doubles as evasion and a counter engine
  • Synergizes with both +1/+1 counter and Zombie tribal support
  • Hard to interact with profitably since each death just draws cards

Weaknesses

  • Mono-blue lacks recursion and reliable creature reanimation, so the board can run dry
  • No native ramp or removal beyond what the color provides
  • Damage output is slow without a payoff to convert counters into wins
  • Reliant on having Zombies/Mutants whose power was modified—vanilla bodies don't trigger draw

Key Cards

  • The Scarab God — Premier mono/blue-adjacent Zombie payoff for scrying, draining, and recurring Zombies to feed Jason's sacrifice loop.
  • Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver — Makes Zombie tokens on death and lets you sac them to draw, stacking value with Jason's engine.
  • Hardened Scales — Doubles up the +1/+1 counters Jason hands out, ensuring power differs from base so deaths draw cards.
  • Skullclamp — Turns every counter-boosted creature death into extra cards, accelerating the draw engine.
  • Gravecrawler — A recursive Zombie that you can endlessly sacrifice for value when paired with counter buffs.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, mana rocks) and more counter doublers like Doubling Season and Branching Evolution to guarantee triggers, plus stronger sac payoffs. Lean into recursion with Gravecrawler-style loops and token generators so you never run out of fodder. Top-end the deck with The Scarab God and proliferate engines, and include blue control staples (Cyclonic Rift, counterspells) to protect the engine.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Going wide with counter-boosted, flying Zombies for lethal beats
  • ▸The Scarab God activations draining the table over multiple turns
  • ▸Overwhelming card advantage into a finisher like a big creature or mass evasion
  • ▸Sacrifice combos that loop bodies for incremental drain or oversized attackers

Archetypes

  • Zombie Tribal — Jason rewards Zombie deaths, making him a natural mono-blue commander for go-wide undead synergies.
  • +1/+1 Counters — His draw trigger keys off modified power, so counter doublers and proliferate effects turn every death into cards.
  • Aristocrats — His built-in sac outlet plus token generation supports a sacrifice-and-value gameplan.
  • Control — Mono-blue gives access to counters and card draw to grind opponents out while the engine fuels your hand.
