The Commander

When Jennika enters, create a 2/2 red Mutant creature token.

Plainscycling {2} ({2}, Discard this card: Search your library for a Plains card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.)

Guide

Gameplan

Jennika is a mono-white go-wide commander that drops one body on entry and is best used as a value engine you flicker, recur, or sacrifice to refill the board. You build a token-and-anthem deck, develop a wide board through white's army-in-a-can and token producers, then overwhelm with mass pumps or convert the swarm into damage. Plainscycling means she's never truly dead in your opening hand—pitch her for a land when you're flooded on threats.

Strengths

  • Mono-white consistency: only one color to manage and easy mana base
  • Built-in card advantage angle via flicker/recursion loops on her ETB token
  • Plainscycling makes her flexible—she's a Plains when you don't need a body
  • Slots cleanly into established white token/anthem shells without needing build-arounds

Weaknesses

  • Token is just a single 2/2 with no evasion or keyword—low ceiling on raw value
  • Mono-white is the weakest color for card draw and ramp in EDH
  • No inherent protection, evasion, or recursion for herself
  • Five mana for a modest effect is slow against optimized tables

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Turns the expendable 2/2 Mutants into a card-draw engine, the best fix for white's draw problem.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Reliably reflickers Jennika each turn to bank an extra token, building a wide board for free.
  • Intangible Virtue — A cheap anthem that makes every token attacker, including the Mutants, hit much harder.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles Jennika's ETB token and every other token you make, snowballing the swarm fast.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each token entering pumps your whole team, turning go-wide into lethal in a couple turns.
  • Heliod, Sun-Crowned — Lifegain and counter synergy plus a resilient mono-white engine piece to back the tokens.

Upgrade Path

Add the white token-doubler package (Anointed Procession, Mondrak, Glory Dominus, Ojer Taq) and resilient anthems (Cathars' Crusade, Intangible Virtue) to push the swarm's ceiling. Patch white's weaknesses with draw and ramp engines—Skullclamp, Welcoming Vampire, Smothering Tithe, Mana Tithe-style staples—and add flicker enablers (Conjurer's Closet, Restoration Angel, Felidar Guardian) to re-bank tokens. Top it with a finisher like Approach of the Second Sun or a Divine Visitation-fueled army to ensure you can actually close games against faster combo decks.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Anthem-pumped token swarm attacking for lethal across the table
  • ▸Cathars' Crusade or overrun-style mass pumps closing out a wide board
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects sacrificing Mutant tokens
  • ▸Skullclamp/Heliod value engines grinding out the game then alpha striking

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Her ETB and a token-doubler suite let you flood the board with bodies to anthem and swing.
  • Blink — Flicker effects like Conjurer's Closet and Restoration Angel re-trigger her token-maker repeatedly.
  • Aristocrats — The steady stream of 2/2 Mutants fuels sacrifice outlets, Skullclamp, and drain payoffs.
  • Go-Wide Aggro — Cheap white creatures plus anthems convert the swarm into fast, repeatable combat damage.
