The Commander

More Than Meets the Eye {3}{U} (You may cast this card converted for {3}{U}.)

Flying

Remove one or more +1/+1 counters from among artifacts you control: Target player adds that much {C}. This mana can't be spent to cast nonartifact spells. Convert Jetfire.

Living metal (During your turn, this Vehicle is also a creature.)

Flying

{U}{U}{U}: Convert Jetfire, then adapt 3. (If it has no +1/+1 counters on it, put three +1/+1 counters on it.)

Guide

Gameplan

Jetfire is a mono-blue artifact-counters value engine: load +1/+1 counters onto your artifacts, then convert them into colorless mana (artifacts-only) to power out big artifacts and activated abilities, while flipping between scientist and flyer modes for evasive damage. You ramp into expensive artifacts, generate counters via proliferate and counter-doublers, then either swing with a buffed flyer or sink the mana into game-ending artifact engines.

Strengths

  • Mono-blue gives access to the best card draw, counterspells, and artifact tutors in the format
  • Doubles as repeatable artifact ramp by cashing in counters for colorless mana
  • Living metal/flip flexibility makes it hard to answer permanently and dodges sorcery-speed removal in robot mode
  • Synergizes with the broad +1/+1 counter and proliferate support to fuel both mana and combat

Weaknesses

  • Mana produced from counters can only cast artifact spells or feed artifact abilities, so it's not true universal ramp
  • Removing counters to make mana weakens your board, creating tension between value and pressure
  • Mono-blue lacks efficient interaction against resolved permanents and enchantments
  • Wrath-prone artifact-heavy boards can be set back hard with little recovery in blue
  • Commander damage plan via Jetfire alone is slow and easily chump-blocked or removed

Key Cards

  • Hardened Scales — Multiplies every counter you place, supercharging both Jetfire's adapt and your mana-from-counters engine.
  • The Ozolith — Banks counters when artifacts die or leave so your stored mana potential is never wasted.
  • Inspiring Statuary — Lets your artifacts' improvise-style value extend to all spells, helping bridge the artifact-only mana restriction.
  • Karn's Bastion — A repeatable proliferate land that grows your artifacts' counters every turn for more mana and bigger threats.
  • Unwinding Clock — Untaps your artifacts during each opponent's turn, doubling the mana you can squeeze from counter conversion.

Upgrade Path

Add counter-doublers (Hardened Scales, Doubling Season) and proliferate engines (Karn's Bastion, Evolution Sage) to exponentially scale your mana and threats. Lean into top-end artifact payoffs and cost reducers (Inspiring Statuary, Etherium Sculptor, Foundry Inspector) so the artifact-only mana is never dead, and include fast mana like Sol Ring, Mana Vault, and Mana Crypt to deploy Jetfire and big artifacts faster. Round out with strong blue interaction (Cyclonic Rift, Swan Song) and tutors (Whir of Invention, Fabricate) to find your engine pieces.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Sink converted colorless mana into a large artifact finisher like an Eldrazi or repeatable damage engine
  • ▸Beat down with a counter-laden, flying Jetfire wielding equipment for commander damage
  • ▸Assemble an artifact mana/proliferate loop to power oversized X-spell or activated-ability kills
  • ▸Grind to victory with superior card advantage and a wide buffed artifact board

Archetypes

  • Artifacts (Big Mana) — Counter-to-colorless conversion ramps you into expensive artifacts and powerful activated abilities ahead of curve.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Jetfire rewards stacking counters across your artifacts, turning counter doublers and proliferate into a mana and combat engine.
  • Voltron / Evasion — Adapt 3 plus flying lets you convert Jetfire into an evasive beater carrying equipment and counters.
  • Control — Mono-blue's counterspells and card advantage let you stall while assembling an artifact-mana payoff.
