Joel turns dying creature tokens into card advantage and a growing threat, so you flood the board with tokens then sacrifice or trade them away to fuel his draw and counters. Build a wide board early, then loop token deaths each turn to bury opponents in cards while Joel becomes a menace-evasive beater. Aristocrats-style drain payoffs and graveyard recursion close things out.
Add free or cheap repeatable sacrifice outlets (Viscera Seer, Carrion Feeder, Ashnod's Altar) and consistent token engines (Ophiomancer, Mycoloth, Endrek Sahr) so you always have a death to trigger Joel. Layer multiple aristocrats payoffs to convert the engine into reliable drain, and include recursion like Meren of Clan Nel Toth or Eternal Witness to rebuild after board wipes. For higher power, lean into a combo finish such as a sac loop with Pitiless Plunderer and a free outlet to drain the table out.
