The Commander

{2}{G}, {T}, Discard two cards: All lands target player controls become 3/3 creatures until end of turn. They're still lands.

Guide

Gameplan

This original Jolrael is a mono-green Stax/land-destruction toolbox: animate an opponent's lands into 3/3 creatures, then nuke them with a board wipe or creature removal to blow up their mana base. Defensively she can animate your own lands as surprise blockers or attackers. You grind opponents off their lands while building a green mana-dork ramp engine, then close with big beaters or a recurring discard-fueled lock.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, color-pip-cheap land destruction when paired with board wipes—rare and devastating in mono-green
  • Doubles as a defensive surprise blocker or alpha-strike enabler by animating your own lands
  • Politically flexible: you choose which player gets hit each turn
  • Mono-green gives access to elite ramp, big creatures, and resilient recursion

Weaknesses

  • Discarding two cards every activation is steep card disadvantage without payoff engines
  • Combo-dependent: she does nothing lethal without a separate wipe/removal piece in hand
  • Mono-green lacks counterspells and interaction, so she's vulnerable to faster combo decks
  • Soft to commander removal and graveyard hate that shuts off recursion
  • Land destruction makes you the table's archenemy quickly

Key Cards

  • Tranquil Path — Cheap repeatable board wipe—animate lands, then wrath the creatures to destroy that player's mana base.
  • Toxic Deluge — X-cost wrath that kills the animated 3/3 lands without affecting your untouched permanents.
  • Pernicious Deed — Blow up all the 3/3 lands at once for a mass mana-base destruction blowout.
  • Massacre Girl — Cascading death triggers can sweep multiple players' animated lands in one swing.
  • Anger of the Gods — Three damage cleanly destroys the 3/3 lands while exiling for extra value.
  • Skullclamp — Turns your discard and dying-land synergy into card advantage to refuel.
  • Sylvan Library — Refills the hand so the two-card discard cost stops being crippling.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your board and the activated Jolrael from removal at instant speed.

Upgrade Path

Lean fully into the land-destruction combo by adding cheap repeatable wraths and instant-speed sweepers (Tranquil Path, Slagstorm, Bontu's Last Reckoning) so animating lands is always lethal to a mana base. Add card-advantage engines—Sylvan Library, The Great Henge, Beast Whisperer—to offset Jolrael's punishing discard cost. Round out with fast green ramp (Mana Crypt, Dryad of the Ilysian Grove, Cabal Coffers) and protection (Heroic Intervention, Veil of Summer) so you can race the faster combo decks mono-green struggles against.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Strip opponents off their lands with repeated animate-then-wipe loops, then grind them out with big green creatures
  • ▸Alpha strike by animating all your lands alongside your board for a surprise lethal swing
  • ▸Overrun-style finisher (Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede) over a stalled table
  • ▸Lock the game with mana denial until opponents can't function and concede to your beaters

Archetypes

  • Stax / Land Destruction — Animating opponents' lands plus board wipes lets mono-green dismantle mana bases turn after turn.
  • Group Slug / Control — Choose targets politically and grind the table down while protecting yourself.
  • Big Creature Midrange — Mono-green ramp into fatties closes games once opponents are mana-starved.
  • Pillowfort Defense — Animate your own lands as instant blockers to deter attacks while you set up.
