BuildCard details

The Commander

This spell costs {1} less to cast for each creature card in your graveyard.

Once during each of your turns, you may cast a creature spell from your graveyard.

Guide

Gameplan

Karador turns your graveyard into a second hand, casting one creature per turn from the yard while filling it via self-mill and sacrifice. You grind value through ETB creatures, recursion, and aristocrats engines until you out-resource the table and assemble a loop or sacrifice-based win. Early turns mill and ramp, mid-game you reanimate threats and value pieces, late game you go infinite or drain everyone out.

Strengths

  • Incredible recursion and grind—nearly impossible to fully disrupt your card advantage
  • Abzan colors give the best removal, tutors, and aristocrats payoffs
  • Cheap commander once your yard fills, letting you rebuild after wipes
  • Naturally resilient to board wipes and spot removal

Weaknesses

  • Graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern) cripples the whole engine
  • No native card draw or evasion in Abzan can leave you grinding without closing
  • Slow starts if you can't fill the graveyard early
  • Combo lines can be telegraphed and disrupted by stax or instant-speed interaction

Key Cards

  • Karmic Guide — Reanimation glue that pairs with Reveillark and sac outlets for the classic Karador loop.
  • Reveillark — Returns Karmic Guide and Body Double on death, the backbone of infinite recursion loops.
  • Sun Titan — Recurs Karador's many cheap value permanents every turn for relentless advantage.
  • Viscera Seer — Free sacrifice outlet that enables loops and converts recursion into wins.
  • Buried Alive — Tutors three creatures straight to the yard, setting up combos and cheapening Karador instantly.
  • Fauna Shaman — Repeatable discard outlet that stocks the graveyard while finding key creatures.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Chrome Mox) and efficient tutors (Vampiric Tutor, Survival of the Fittest, Birthing Pod) to find combo pieces faster. Tighten the aristocrats package with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and free sac outlets like Carrion Feeder for compact wins. Round out with graveyard-hate protection and an Anguished Unmaking/Swords suite so your engine survives long enough to deploy.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Infinite death/ETB triggers with Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat draining the table
  • ▸Looping Karmic Guide + Reveillark + a sac outlet for infinite recursion into a payoff
  • ▸Beatdown with recurred large threats like Sun Titan and Grave Titan
  • ▸Mikaeus, the Unhallowed plus a free sac outlet and persist creature for infinite combo

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Karador casts huge creatures from the yard for cheap, and Abzan packs every reanimation spell.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrifice loops with recursive creatures generate drain and infinite value with Blood Artist effects.
  • Value Midrange — Endless ETB recursion grinds opponents out through sheer card advantage.
  • Combo — Reveillark/Karmic Guide and sac-outlet loops produce infinite ETB/death triggers for the win.
