BuildCard details

The Commander

Vigilance, trample, haste

Whenever Karvanista attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on each Human you control.

Humans you control gain indestructible until your next turn. (Then exile this card. You may cast the creature later from exile.)

Guide

Gameplan

Karvanista is a mono-green Human tribal beatdown commander: flood the board with Humans, swing with Karvanista (who has haste, vigilance, and trample), and pump your whole team with +1/+1 counters while keeping Humans indestructible through combat. The Lupari Shield Adventure protects your board early and you cast Karvanista later as a recurring overrun engine.

Strengths

  • Built-in haste plus a counter anthem and indestructibility makes attacks low-risk and snowbally.
  • Mono-green gives access to the format's best ramp and the deepest Human/counter support.
  • Indestructible Humans dodge board wipes and unfavorable blocks, enabling all-in alpha strikes.
  • Lupari Shield (Adventure) gives flexible early protection without losing the commander.

Weaknesses

  • Mono-green has almost no interaction, card draw is creature-dependent, and removal is limited to fight/destroy-artifact effects.
  • Vulnerable to exile-based and 'sacrifice' removal that ignores indestructible.
  • Go-wide plans fold to repeatable sweepers and stax pieces like Propaganda or fog effects.
  • Relies on connecting with attacks; chump blockers and flyers can stall the ground.

Key Cards

  • Cathars' Crusade — Every Human (and creature) you make stacks counters, turning Karvanista's attack trigger into an explosive board state.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Classic mono-green finisher that converts a wide indestructible Human board into lethal trample damage.
  • Coat of Arms — Massive flat anthem for a dedicated Human tribal board that ends games quickly.
  • Adeline, Resplendent Cathar — Spawns extra Humans on every attack, fueling both the counter anthem and your tribal payoffs—though note she's white, so use mono-green Human generators instead in this deck.
  • Champion of Lambholt — Makes your team unblockable as you go wide and grows huge off all your Humans and tokens.
  • Hardened Scales — Cheap multiplier that supercharges Karvanista's per-Human counter distribution.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the curve toward efficient Human generators and counter multipliers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Doubling Season) so each attack is overwhelming. Add green's best ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits, Nature's Lore) to deploy threats faster, and lean on staple finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth, Triumph of the Hordes, and Pathbreaker Ibex. Shore up green's interaction gap with Heroic Intervention, Beast Within, and reusable card advantage like Beast Whisperer and Garruk's Uprising.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha strike with an indestructible, counter-pumped Human board behind Craterhoof or Overrun.
  • ▸Coat of Arms / tribal anthems making your Humans individually lethal.
  • ▸Champion of Lambholt or trample making the team unblockable and one-shotting opponents.

Archetypes

  • Human Tribal Aggro — Karvanista directly rewards a board of Humans with counters and indestructibility on every attack.
  • +1/+1 Counters — The attack trigger synergizes with counter doublers and proliferate to snowball your whole team.
  • Go-Wide Tokens — Indestructibility and the anthem effect make a flood of small Humans into a real threat that survives combat and wraths.
