BuildCard details

The Commander

Partner with Sylvia Brightspear (When this creature enters, target player may put Sylvia into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)

Flying, haste

Knights your team controls have flying and haste.

Guide

Gameplan

Khorvath is a mono-red Knights tribal payoff that hands your whole Knight army evasion and haste, turning a wide board into an immediate alpha strike. You flood the board with cheap Knights, buff them, and swing the turn they enter; pairing with Sylvia Brightspear gives a dedicated voltron/aggro plan plus a free tutor on either ETB.

Strengths

  • Grants flying AND haste to all your Knights, enabling explosive, hard-to-block aggression
  • Built-in card advantage via Partner — Khorvath tutors Sylvia and vice versa
  • Mono-red consistency and access to cheap, efficient Knights and burn
  • Flying + haste on the commander itself makes it a real clock and evasive beater
  • Sylvia gives Khorvath +1/+0 and trample when both are out, snowballing damage

Weaknesses

  • Mono-red lacks card draw and recovery; vulnerable to board wipes
  • Anthem is non-functional if Khorvath is removed — heavy commander dependence
  • No native removal-proofing or protection for your team
  • Limited interaction with combo/control decks at higher tables
  • Knight tribal in red alone is shallow without splashing or generic creatures

Key Cards

  • Sylvia Brightspear — Her Partner pairing buffs Khorvath with +1/+0 and trample and gives bonus damage when Dragons are involved, anchoring the aggro plan.
  • Knight Exemplar — Pumps all your Knights and makes them indestructible, dodging most removal and board wipes.
  • Hero of Bladehold — Battle cry plus token generation widens the board and amplifies every alpha strike.
  • Cavalier of Flame — A premium Knight that doubles as reach, mana, and a finisher fueled by your hand.
  • Skullclamp — Solves mono-red's card draw problem by sacrificing small Knights for two cards each.
  • Goldnight Commander — Pumps your whole team each time a creature enters, snowballing your token Knights into lethal.

Upgrade Path

Add card-advantage engines red can use (Skullclamp, Outpost Siege, Wheel of Fortune) and protection like Heroic Intervention substitutes (Boros Charm via partner-color limits aside—stick to red's Deflecting Swat and Tibalt's Trickery for interaction). Tighten the curve with the best cheap Knights and equipment voltron pieces (Embercleave, Hammer of Nazahn), and include haste-immune wraths protection via Knight Exemplar or Dolmen Gate. Push the manabase with Sol Ring, fast rocks, and Cavern of Souls to make Khorvath and your Knights uncounterable and explosive.
