BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever one or more cards leave your graveyard, Kirol becomes prepared. (While it's prepared, you may cast a copy of its spell. Doing so unprepares it.)

Mill a card. Put two +1/+1 counters on target creature. It gains trample until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Kirol is a Boros graveyard-fueled aggro engine: leverage cards leaving your graveyard (recursion, flashback, escape, exile-graveyard effects) to repeatedly 'prepare' Kirol, then cast copies of Pack a Punch to dump +1/+1 counters and trample onto an attacker. You build a wide or tall board, prepare Kirol multiple times per turn, and swing for lethal trampling damage, often combining counter payoffs with go-wide tokens.

Strengths

  • Cheap two-mana commander that turns graveyard interaction into free combat tricks every turn
  • Trample plus repeatable counters makes evasive, hard-to-block threats out of any creature
  • Synergizes with Boros's strong recursion, equipment, and aggressive token themes
  • Self-mill from Pack a Punch feeds more graveyard fuel, creating a self-sustaining loop

Weaknesses

  • Needs a constant stream of cards leaving the graveyard to keep Kirol prepared—stalls without enablers
  • Boros lacks card draw and ramp, so it can run out of gas
  • Heavily creature- and combat-reliant, so board wipes and removal set you back hard
  • Graveyard hate shuts off your prepare engine almost entirely

Key Cards

  • Faithless Looting — Loots and the discarded cards fuel future recursion, while flashback itself triggers cards leaving the yard to prepare Kirol.
  • Sun Titan — Recurs permanents from the graveyard each turn, reliably preparing Kirol while rebuilding your board.
  • Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist — Moves equipment and counters around, amplifying the buffed trampler that Pack a Punch creates.
  • Skullclamp — Premier Boros card advantage that creatures dying into the graveyard, then recurred, both feeds and triggers Kirol.
  • Dockside Extortionist — Explosive mana that lets you recast Pack a Punch copies multiple times in a turn for huge counter swings.
  • Anje's Ravager — Engine that constantly cycles your graveyard, keeping Kirol prepared while refilling your hand.

Upgrade Path

Add more cheap, repeatable graveyard interaction—flashback spells, escape cards, and creatures like Sun Titan or Bloodghast that loop in and out of the yard—to maximize Kirol triggers. Layer in mana acceleration (Dockside Extortionist, fast rocks) so you can recast multiple Pack a Punch copies per turn, and include payoffs like Cathars' Crusade or proliferate effects to snowball counters into a single-turn kill.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Swinging with one or more counter-loaded, trampling creatures for lethal damage
  • ▸Going wide with tokens and using prepared Kirol copies to push through blockers
  • ▸Voltron beats with a single oversized trampler buffed each turn
  • ▸Commander damage from Kirol itself or a key recurring threat

Archetypes

  • Counters Aggro — Pack a Punch repeatedly stacks +1/+1 counters with trample, turning any creature into a fast clock.
  • Graveyard/Recursion — Kirol rewards any card leaving the graveyard, so recursion loops double as combat-trick generators.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Boros token strategies provide plentiful targets for counters and bodies to swing with trample.
  • Voltron — Stacking counters and trample on one equipped threat enables fast commander or creature damage kills.
