BuildCard details

The Commander

{T}: Return Lady Sun and another target creature to their owners' hands. Activate only during your turn, before attackers are declared.

Guide

Gameplan

Lady Sun is a mono-blue value/tempo engine: every turn before combat you bounce her plus another creature back to hand. Use that to reload your own ETB creatures, save permanents from removal, or set opponents back by repeatedly bouncing their best threat or freshly cast creature. You grind incremental advantage while a control shell keeps the board in check, then close with evasive beaters, a combo, or an alternate wincon.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, free bounce that abuses enters-the-battlefield creatures every turn
  • Protects your own key creatures from targeted removal and board wipes by tucking them to hand
  • Acts as soft removal/lockdown by bouncing an opponent's threat each turn before they can attack
  • Self-recurring commander that dodges commander tax accumulation since you return her yourself
  • Lives comfortably in a slow mono-blue control shell with strong card advantage and counters

Weaknesses

  • Ability is sorcery-speed and only on your turn, so it can't bounce as a combat trick or at instant speed
  • Low impact on its own—needs ETB creatures or repeated activation to generate real value
  • Single tap per turn unless you add untap enablers, limiting tempo against multiple opponents
  • Mono-blue lacks efficient removal and ramp, so the deck can stall on board presence
  • Vulnerable to being a slow, durdly midrange pile without a focused win plan

Key Cards

  • Mulldrifter — Bounce it each turn to redraw two cards, turning Lady Sun into a recurring card-advantage engine.
  • Snapcaster Mage — Returning it lets you reflashback spells repeatedly for a value loop with your instants.
  • Sower of Temptation — Bounce and recast to keep stealing the best creature on the board every single turn.
  • Frost Titan — A resilient ETB tap-and-tax body you can re-deploy to lock down threats.
  • Thousand-Year Elixir — Gives Lady Sun haste and an extra untap, enabling two bounces per turn for stronger lockdown.
  • Cyclonic Rift — Mono-blue's premier blowout to reset the board when grinding falls behind.
  • Venser, Shaper Savant — Recurring counter/bounce on a stick that pairs perfectly with Lady Sun's reuse.

Upgrade Path

Add untap enablers like Thousand-Year Elixir, Freed from the Real, Pemmin's Aura, and Intruder Alarm to bounce multiple times per turn and build toward combo loops with Peregrine Drake or Great Whale for infinite mana. Lean into the best mono-blue staples—Cyclonic Rift, Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, and fast mana rocks—to keep pace, and pick a clean wincon such as Thassa's Oracle or a Sword-equipped evasive threat so your grind actually converts to a victory.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Evasive blue finishers or a buffed beater connecting over a stalled board
  • ▸Mill or Thassa's Oracle / Laboratory Maniac after assembling card draw
  • ▸Approach of the Second Sun in a dedicated control build
  • ▸Soft-locking opponents by bouncing their threats each turn while a slow clock finishes them

Archetypes

  • Blink/Value — Lady Sun repeatedly returns ETB creatures to hand so you re-trigger their effects each turn.
  • Control — She slots into a counters-and-card-draw shell, recurring threats and bouncing opposing problems.
  • Tempo/Stax — With untap enablers she perpetually bounces opponents' freshly cast or attacking creatures to grind their resources.
  • Combo — Bounce loops with untappers and ETB creatures (e.g., Peregrine Drake mana) can fuel game-ending engines.
