BuildCard details

The Commander

When Lagrella enters, exile any number of other target creatures controlled by different players until Lagrella leaves the battlefield. When an exiled card enters under your control this way, put two +1/+1 counters on it.

Guide

Gameplan

Lagrella is a Bant value engine that steals one creature from each opponent (or your own utility creatures) when she enters, returning them under your control with two +1/+1 counters. You blink or recur Lagrella repeatedly to keep stealing the best creatures on the board while shrinking everyone else, then snowball that pile of stolen bodies and counter synergies into a beatdown or value lock.

Strengths

  • Repeatable multi-target theft that scales with the number of opponents
  • Built-in +1/+1 counters make stolen creatures bigger and enable counters synergies
  • Cheap three-mana commander that comes online fast and recasts easily
  • Lives in Bant, giving access to the best blink, flicker, and protection toolbox

Weaknesses

  • Effects only last while Lagrella stays on the battlefield, so removing or bouncing her hands creatures back
  • Theft is mandatory and targets different players, so it can whiff or backfire in low-creature pods
  • No evasion or protection on her own body makes her a removal magnet
  • Relies on opponents having good creatures to steal, awkward against spellslinger or token-light boards

Key Cards

  • Conjurer's Closet — End-step blink retriggers Lagrella's theft every turn, locking down opposing creatures permanently.
  • Restoration Angel — Flickers Lagrella at instant speed to re-steal and dodge removal.
  • Ghostly Flicker — Repeatable blink to reset Lagrella's exile and pile on counters.
  • Felidar Guardian — Another reusable flicker body, especially nasty with extra-turn or copy loops.
  • Sun Titan — Recurs a fallen Lagrella from the graveyard to keep the theft engine running.
  • Hardened Scales — Doubles the counters Lagrella drops, turning stolen creatures into immediate threats.
  • Cloudstone Curio — Bounce-and-recast Lagrella to re-trigger theft on demand.

Upgrade Path

Add more reliable, repeatable blink (Conjurer's Closet, Eldrazi Displacer, Thassa, Deep-Dwelling) and ways to protect or recur Lagrella so the theft never reverses. Lean into counters doublers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution) and an overrun finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or Triumph of the Hordes. To push toward cEDH, prioritize fast mana, instant-speed flicker, and stealing opposing combo enablers to act as soft interaction.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with an army of buffed, stolen creatures
  • ▸Steal opponents' combo pieces or finishers to remove their wins while assembling your own
  • ▸Counters-matters payoffs and overrun effects to alpha strike
  • ▸Grind out incremental advantage until opponents have no relevant creatures left

Archetypes

  • Blink/Flicker — Repeatedly flickering Lagrella retriggers her theft to permanently strip opponents of creatures.
  • Theft/Stax — Stealing each opponent's best creature simultaneously cripples boards while building yours.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Every stolen creature gets two counters, supporting a counters-matters value plan.
  • Value Midrange — Bant's card advantage and protection back up a snowballing army of borrowed threats.
