The Commander

Flying

Whenever two or more creatures you control attack a player, target attacking creature without flying gains flying until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Landroval is a mono-white go-wide aggro commander that turns a board of small creatures into an evasive swarm. Each combat where you attack with two or more creatures, you push a non-flyer over the top with flying, making blocking miserable. Flood the board with tokens and anthems, then alpha strike through the air.

Strengths

  • Built-in evasion makes wide boards lethal and hard to block profitably
  • Cheap commander that fits an aggressive curve and rebuilds quickly
  • Mono-white gives access to the format's best token, anthem, and protection package
  • Synergizes with extra-combat and double-strike effects to grant evasion repeatedly

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white lacks card draw and ramp relative to multicolor decks
  • Vulnerable to board wipes, which devastate a token strategy
  • The ability only grants flying to one creature per attack trigger, not the whole team
  • Struggles against decks that go over the top with bigger threats or fast combo

Key Cards

  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your wide board from the wraths that otherwise blow you out (though prefer white's options like Flawless Maneuver).
  • Flawless Maneuver — Free protection from board wipes, crucial since your commander wants a full board.
  • Intangible Virtue — Anthem that pumps your token army so the evasive attacker hits harder.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles token output, accelerating your go-wide plan dramatically.
  • Skullclamp — Solves white's card-draw problem by cashing in small tokens for fuel.
  • Dauntless Bodyguard — Representative of cheap white creatures that fill the board and benefit from anthems.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient ramp like Smothering Tithe and Land Tax plus mass token doublers (Anointed Procession, Mondrak) to scale faster. Lean into extra-combat and overrun effects—Aurelia, Finest Hour-style payoffs and Craterhoof-like white finishers (Cathars' Crusade, Triumph of the Hordes via a splash, or Akroma's Will) close games. Prioritize white's premium board-wipe protection (Flawless Maneuver, Heroic Intervention) and card advantage (Skullclamp, Welcoming Vampire) to fix the deck's biggest mono-white weaknesses.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha strike with a token swarm, granting flying to push lethal commander damage or evasive trample
  • ▸Overwhelm with anthems plus repeatable extra combats
  • ▸Convoke or sacrifice payoffs that turn a wide board into a finisher (e.g., Cathars' Crusade beaters)

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Landroval rewards flooding the board, and tokens give you the two-plus attackers needed to trigger evasion.
  • Go-Wide Aggro — A swarm of small creatures becomes lethal when one gains flying to slip past blockers each combat.
  • Anthem Aggro — Mono-white anthems amplify a wide board, turning chip damage into kills through the air.
