BuildCard details

The Commander

Trample

Leatherhead enters with a hexproof counter on her.

Whenever Leatherhead deals combat damage to a player, you may remove a counter from her. When you do, destroy target artifact or enchantment that player controls.

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up Leatherhead as a mono-green beater, connect for combat damage, and grind down opponents' artifacts and enchantments while smashing in for big trample damage. She enters protected by a hexproof counter, so lean into proliferate and counter synergies to keep her hexproof while also fueling repeated destruction. You win by buffing her into a lethal voltron threat or going wide with green creatures.

Strengths

  • Built-in hexproof counter makes her resilient to targeted removal early
  • Trample plus green ramp lets her hit hard and push damage through blockers
  • Doubles as repeatable artifact/enchantment removal, rare in mono-green
  • Counter-based protection synergizes with proliferate and +1/+1 counter themes

Weaknesses

  • Removal effect only triggers on combat damage to a player, so she must connect
  • Once the hexproof counter is removed she's vulnerable to spot removal
  • Mono-green lacks card draw, interaction, and evasion outside of trample
  • Board wipes and chump-blocking strategies blunt her voltron plan
  • Vulnerable to flyers and reach creatures stonewalling her attacks

Key Cards

  • Hardened Scales — Multiplies any counters you add, keeping her hexproof counter stocked for repeated destruction.
  • Inkmoth Nexus — Proliferate targets aside, counter-doublers and proliferate refill her hexproof counter pool.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles counters placed, so proliferate adds two counters at once for sustained protection and removal.
  • The Ozolith — Banks counters when she dies and lets you reload her protection and removal triggers.
  • Rancor — Recurring trample boost that keeps coming back after board wipes to maintain pressure.
  • Shifting Shadow — Cheap evasion and pump help her connect to fire off destruction triggers.

Upgrade Path

Add counter multipliers (Doubling Season, Hardened Scales) and proliferate engines to keep her hexproof counter topped while reloading destruction triggers. Improve evasion and trample enablers (Nylea's Colossus, Tarmogoyf-style threats, Whispersilk-type effects via green's limited options like Loxodon Warhammer) and add fast mana such as Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and dorks to deploy her ahead of curve. Round out with green's best card advantage (Sylvan Library, Beast Whisperer) and protection (Heroic Intervention, Veil of Summer) to survive interaction.

  • +1/+1 Counters — Counter-doublers and proliferate keep her hexproof while loading her up for big swings.
  • Stax/Disruption — Repeatable artifact and enchantment destruction lets her dismantle key engines and lock pieces.
  • Stompy Midrange — Green ramp into big creatures with Leatherhead as a resilient, evasive finisher.
