The Commander

Flying, vigilance

Whenever Leori deals combat damage to a player, choose a planeswalker type. Until end of turn, whenever you activate an ability of a planeswalker of that type, copy that ability. You may choose new targets for the copies.

Guide

Gameplan

Leori is a 3-mana evasive Jeskai beater that doubles your planeswalkers' value: connect with a player, name a walker type (usually Teferi, Jace, or Chandra), and every loyalty ability of those walkers copies for the rest of the turn. The plan is to flood the board with planeswalkers behind defensive pieces, swing in with flying vigilance Leori, then chain copied ultimates and powerful activations to bury opponents in card advantage, removal, and damage.

Strengths

  • Cheap evasive commander with flying and vigilance that reliably connects for the trigger
  • Turns a standard Superfriends shell into an explosive engine, doubling +1s, -X's, and game-ending ultimates
  • Jeskai gives access to the deepest planeswalker pool plus premium counters, removal, and protection
  • Vigilance means Leori can attack and still hold back to defend your walkers

Weaknesses

  • Needs to deal combat damage first, so it's slow and stalls behind blockers or repeated removal
  • The copy only applies to one chosen planeswalker type per turn, limiting which walkers benefit
  • Heavy planeswalker count is vulnerable to mass attacks, Vandalblast-style sweeps, and being focused
  • Color-intensive RUW manabase and no innate ramp make the deck mana-hungry

Key Cards

  • Teferi, Hero of Dominaria — Copying his -3 exiles two permanents and his ultimate can lock the table out instantly.
  • The Chain Veil — Lets you activate the same walker multiple times, which Leori then copies for absurd loyalty value.
  • Doubling Season — Stacks with Leori so loyalty and tokens compound, enabling turn-one ultimates.
  • Oath of Teferi — Lets you activate each planeswalker twice, multiplying the copies Leori generates.
  • Deploy the Gatewatch — Cheats two planeswalkers onto the battlefield to fuel the engine fast.
  • Jeska's Will — Explosive ritual ramp to deploy multiple walkers in a single turn and connect with Leori.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the manabase with shock lands, fast lands, fetches, and signets/Talismans so you can cast color-hungry walkers on curve. Add the engine pieces—The Chain Veil, Doubling Season, Oath of Teferi, and Deploy the Gatewatch—alongside protection like Teferi's Protection and a Smothering Tithe ramp package. Prioritize walkers whose abilities are devastating when copied (Teferi Hero, Ugin, Karn, Chandra Awakened Inferno) and trim weak filler walkers that don't reward doubling.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Resolving and copying game-ending ultimates like Teferi or Jace to lock out or deck opponents
  • ▸Chaining copied damage abilities (Chandra, Ral, Sarkhan) for direct burn kills
  • ▸Overwhelming the board with copied token-generating walkers and attacking
  • ▸Establishing a Chain Veil / Oath of Teferi loop for near-infinite activations

Archetypes

  • Superfriends — Leori is the premier payoff for stacking planeswalkers, doubling their abilities once she connects.
  • Control — Jeskai counters, sweepers, and walker-generated card advantage let you grind the table down.
  • Combo — With The Chain Veil, Oath of Teferi, and Doubling Season, copied loyalty activations can loop into infinite value or lethal ultimates.
  • Voltron — Leori's flying and vigilance make her a serviceable evasive carrier when you just need the damage trigger to come online.
