BuildCard details

The Commander

When Lluwen enters, mill four cards, then you may put a creature or land card from among the milled cards on top of your library.

{2}{B/G}{B/G}{B/G}, {T}, Discard a land card: Create a 1/1 black and green Worm creature token for each land card in your graveyard.

Guide

Gameplan

Lluwen fills your graveyard with self-mill and rewards you for stacking lands there, then converts that graveyard into a swarm of Worm tokens. You play a Golgari midrange/value game—mill, recur, and ramp early—then activate Lluwen repeatedly to flood the board and win through go-wide aggression, sacrifice payoffs, or token-based combos.

Strengths

  • Cheap two-mana commander that immediately advances your gameplan and smooths draws via the top-of-library tuck
  • Scales hard into the late game—huge graveyards mean huge Worm batches off a single activation
  • Naturally fuels graveyard/aristocrats synergies and lands-matter payoffs
  • Repeatable token engine that's a token of card advantage even after board wipes

Weaknesses

  • Token ability is mana-intensive ({2}{B/G}{B/G}{B/G}, tap, plus a land discard) and only nets value with a stocked yard
  • Graveyard hate (Bojuka Bog, Rest in Peace) can blank both the mill payoff and the Worm count
  • Worms enter without haste and are individually small, so a single sweeper undoes a turn of work
  • Self-mill can occasionally mill key pieces with no easy way to retrieve them

Key Cards

  • Splendid Reclamation — Returns every land from your graveyard to play, ramping hard while feeding Worm counts on future activations.
  • Crucible of Worlds — Lets you replay lands you discard to Lluwen and keep recycling fetches/sacrifice lands into the yard.
  • Ramunap Excavator — A creature version of Crucible that turns your stocked graveyard lands into endless plays and discard fodder.
  • Dakmor Salvage — A dredge land you can repeatedly mill and discard, perfectly synergizing with Lluwen's land-discard cost.
  • Zulaport Cutthroat — Drains each opponent whenever a Worm dies, turning your token swarm into a closing aristocrats engine.
  • Avenger of Zendikar — Doubles down on land-token payoffs and provides a second go-wide finisher alongside the Worms.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient ramp and fetchlands (plus Crucible/Ramunap Excavator) to load the graveyard fast and discount Lluwen's activation. Lean into a sacrifice subtheme—Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer, and multiple drain payoffs—so each Worm batch can immediately threaten lethal. Then tighten the curve with graveyard-fueled combos like Splendid Reclamation loops and protect the engine with recursion and a sweeper-resilient gameplan.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha strike with a wide Worm swarm, ideally pumped by Overrun-style effects or anthems
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Zulaport Cutthroat/Blood Artist as you sacrifice Worms en masse
  • ▸Reanimating large finishers or comboing with Avenger of Zendikar and land-token synergies

Archetypes

  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Lluwen's activated ability mass-produces Worm tokens scaling with your graveyard, the core of a wide aggressive board.
  • Aristocrats — Expendable Worms are ideal fodder for sacrifice outlets and drain payoffs like Blood Artist effects.
  • Lands / Graveyard Value — The whole engine cares about lands in the yard, rewarding fetchlands, dredge, and land recursion.
  • Reanimator — Heavy self-mill feeds reanimation spells to cheat out big threats from a bursting graveyard.
