The Commander

Whenever Loran or another legendary creature you control enters, return target artifact card from your graveyard to your hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Loran turns every legendary creature ETB into artifact recursion, so you flood the board with legends and value engines while rebuilding any artifacts that die or get sacrificed. You grind incremental advantage in mono-white, recurring powerful artifacts and key equipment, then close with a sturdy go-wide or artifact-based engine. Turn to turn you're playing legends, blinking or sacrificing artifacts, and getting them back.

Strengths

  • Repeatable artifact recursion that turns sacrifice and combat losses into card advantage
  • Mono-white consistency and access to white's deep stax, tax, and recursion tools
  • Strong synergy with the dense legendary creature pool in white
  • Resilient grind plan that outlasts removal-light pods

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white's classic shortage of card draw and ramp
  • Recursion only triggers on legendary creature ETBs, narrowing your creature choices
  • No graveyard fill of its own—needs artifacts in the bin first
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate that shuts off the whole engine

Key Cards

  • Mangara, the Diplomat — A legendary creature that draws cards and punishes attacks, fueling and abusing the legends theme.
  • Skullclamp — The premier mono-white card draw that Loran can recur every time a legend enters.
  • Solemn Simulacrum — Not legendary but a great body; pair Loran with blink to reuse ETBs and return fragile artifacts.
  • Sun Titan — Backs up Loran by recurring cheap artifacts and legends from the yard.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Sacrifice artifacts for mana, then Loran returns them when your next legend enters.
  • Yorion, Sky Nomad — Blink package partner—flicker Loran or other legends to re-trigger artifact returns.

Upgrade Path

Add the best mono-white ramp and card advantage (Smothering Tithe, Sword to Plowshares, Mind's Eye, Esper Sentinel) and tighten the legendary creature count so Loran triggers most turns. Lean into a blink or sacrifice subtheme—Conjurer's Closet, Ashnod's Altar, and Phyrexian Altar create loops with cheap artifacts. Finish by including a clean combo or a decisive go-wide payoff so your grindy value plan can actually close games.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grind out value with recurring artifacts until you out-resource the table
  • ▸Assemble a sacrifice/recursion loop with altars and artifacts for repeatable advantage or combo
  • ▸Go wide with legends and finish via an anthem or equipped threat
  • ▸Equipment-based Voltron beats with reusable swords

Archetypes

  • Artifacts Value — Loran continually recurs your best artifacts for repeatable ETB and equip value.
  • Blink — Flickering Loran and other legends re-triggers the artifact-return ability.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrifice artifacts to altars, then return them with each legendary entering.
  • Legends Matter — A high legendary-creature count maximizes Loran's recursion triggers.
