The Commander

Each creature that's a Barbarian, a Warrior, or a Berserker gets +2/+2 and has haste.

Guide

Gameplan

Lovisa is a mono-red tribal payoff that pumps every Barbarian, Warrior, and Berserker by +2/+2 and grants them haste. You flood the board with cheap aggressive creatures early, drop Lovisa around turn five to immediately swing for huge hasty damage, and close fast before slower decks stabilize.

Strengths

  • Massive board-wide anthem (+2/+2) that turns small creatures into real threats
  • Haste lets fresh recruits and reanimated bodies attack the turn they arrive, enabling alpha strikes
  • Mono-red consistency and access to cheap, efficient aggressive tribal creatures
  • Doubles as a haste enabler for big red bombs that happen to be Warriors/Berserkers

Weaknesses

  • Anthem only buffs three creature types, so off-tribe support cards do nothing for the team
  • A single board wipe sets you back catastrophically with little recovery
  • Vulnerable to removal—killing Lovisa instantly shrinks your whole board and removes haste
  • Mono-red lacks card draw and struggles in long games against control/combo
  • No built-in evasion, so wide boards get gummed up by blockers

Key Cards

  • Krenko, Mob Boss — Floods the board with Goblins, and while not all-tribe, pairs with Warrior/Berserker token makers to feed Lovisa's anthem and haste.
  • Chief of the Edge — A cheap Warrior lord stacking with Lovisa to make your Warrior team enormous.
  • Mardu Hateblade — Cheap Warrior body that becomes a real threat under the anthem; representative of efficient one-drops.
  • Goldnight Commander — Triggers off each creature entering to pump the team, snowballing with token-heavy aggro starts.
  • Skullclamp — Mono-red's premier card-advantage engine, drawing into more bodies as your buffed creatures trade.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge — Provides reach and a payoff when creatures enter, closing games even through blockers.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into a single tribe (Warriors are the deepest) so every lord and payoff stacks, and add evasion enablers like Bedlam or trample sources to stop board stalls. Improve resilience with recursion (Faithless Looting plus reanimation) and protection like Boros Charm or Heroic Intervention's red equivalents, and add card advantage via Skullclamp, Outpost Siege, and Valakut Awakening to refuel after wraths.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide alpha strikes with the whole team buffed +2/+2 and hasty
  • ▸Burn and direct-damage payoffs like Purphoros plus aggressive attacks
  • ▸Commander/voltron damage from a single equipped, anthem-boosted threat

Archetypes

  • Tribal Aggro — Lovisa's anthem and haste reward going wide with Warriors, Barbarians, and Berserkers for fast beatdown.
  • Tokens — Token generators that make Warriors/Berserkers immediately benefit from +2/+2 and haste for explosive swings.
  • Voltron-lite — A single buffed Berserker with trample or evasion can carry equipment for commander-damage kills.
