The Commander

When Mikey & Mona enter, choose one or both. Each mode must target a different player.

• Target player chooses a creature they control and puts two +1/+1 counters on it.

• Target player returns a creature or land card from their graveyard to their hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Mikey & Mona is a mono-green blink/+1+1 counters engine: each cast or flicker gives you a free recursion or counter mode while pacifying a table with politics. You ramp into the commander early, build a counters-matters board, and abuse the ETB by repeatedly bouncing and reanimating Mikey & Mona to fuel value. The deck wins through oversized creatures, counter-doubling explosions, or grinding card advantage from the graveyard.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable value on every ETB via blink and bounce effects
  • Cheap mono-green commander that ramps and casts itself quickly
  • Political flexibility—gifting a mode can dodge removal or buy alliances
  • Slots cleanly into the deep, well-supported +1/+1 counters archetype

Weaknesses

  • Each mode must target a different player, so you can't take both benefits yourself
  • Mono-green struggles with interaction, card draw, and removing non-creature threats
  • Effect is symmetrical-ish: opponents also profit from the counter/recursion modes
  • No evasion or protection baked in—your big creatures get chump-blocked or wrathed

Key Cards

  • Hardened Scales — Turns the counter mode and your whole counters package into a snowballing engine.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles counters placed by Mikey & Mona's first mode for explosive growth.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Reliably blinks Mikey & Mona each end step to re-trigger both ETB modes.
  • Ezuri, Renegade Leader — Overrun outlet and counter payoff that closes games out of nowhere.
  • The Great Henge — Premier green ramp and draw engine, cheap thanks to your fat counter-laden creatures.
  • Eternal Witness — Recursion that pairs with blink to rebuy your best spells alongside the commander.

Upgrade Path

Add more reliable blink (Restoration Angel, Thousand-Year Elixir lines, Soul Foundry-style recursion) and counter doublers (Branching Evolution, Kalonian Hydra) to maximize repeated ETBs. Lean harder into green finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth, Pathbreaker Ibex, and Triumph of the Hordes for explosive kills. Shore up the color's weaknesses with green interaction—Beast Within, Heroic Intervention, and strong ramp like Nature's Lore and Cultivate to outpace the table.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun-style effects (Ezuri, Craterhoof Behemoth) for a lethal alpha strike
  • ▸Voltron a single counter-laden creature with trample to one-shot players
  • ▸Grind card and board advantage until your stats simply overwhelm the table

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — The first mode plants counters you can double and reward with green payoffs.
  • Blink — Flickering Mikey & Mona reuses the ETB for value every turn.
  • Group Hug / Politics — Gifting recursion or counters to a player lets you broker deals and direct aggression.
  • Ramp Stompy — Mono-green naturally ramps into huge counter-buffed threats to beat down.
