BuildCard details

The Commander

Haste

{1}, {T}, Discard a card: Draw a card.

Whenever you discard one or more artifact cards, add {R}{R}. This ability triggers only once each turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Use Mishra's repeatable loot to dig for cheap artifacts and big payoffs, dumping artifact cards from hand to add {R}{R} and fuel an explosive turn. You sculpt your hand every turn while ramping into oversized artifacts and threats, then close with artifact recursion engines, big swings, or burn/storm-adjacent value loops.

Strengths

  • Built-in card filtering every turn that smooths draws and digs to combo pieces
  • Discarding artifacts produces free {R}{R}, effectively ramping in mono-red
  • Haste lets him loot the turn he lands and pressures opponents immediately
  • Cheap (MV3) and recasts easily, enabling repeated value even through removal
  • Strong synergy with madness, flashback, and artifact graveyard recursion

Weaknesses

  • Mono-red color identity limits access to true tutors and card advantage outside red
  • The {R}{R} trigger fires only once per turn, capping the ramp burst
  • Relies on having artifacts in hand to discard for value
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate that shuts off recursion payoffs
  • Looting is symmetrical card disadvantage if you discard non-recurring cards

Key Cards

  • Goblin Welder — Turns discarded artifacts in the yard into a swap engine, cheating big artifacts into play for free.
  • Daretti, Scrap Savant — Doubles as a looter and reanimates the artifacts you pitch to Mishra for repeatable value.
  • Feldon of the Third Path — Reanimates discarded artifact creatures from the yard, abusing Mishra's looting perfectly.
  • Wheel of Fortune — Refills your hand explosively after dumping cards, often discarding artifacts to trigger ramp.
  • Trash for Treasure — Sacrifices a token or trinket to return a fat discarded artifact straight to the battlefield.
  • Underworld Breach — Recurs artifacts and spells from the graveyard, enabling powerful loops with Mishra's filtering.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Jeweled Lotus) and rituals to convert Mishra's filtering into explosive turns, and lean into Goblin Welder + Daretti recursion with high-impact artifacts. For higher power, build toward an Underworld Breach combo line or a Worldgorger/Welder lock, and include red's best card advantage like Wheel of Fortune and Faithless Looting to keep cards flowing.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Cheat out and swing with oversized artifact threats like Blightsteel Colossus or Wurmcoil Engine
  • ▸Goblin Welder / Daretti recursion loops generating overwhelming value and incremental advantage
  • ▸Storm/ritual combo finish via Underworld Breach into burn or Aetherflux-style payoffs
  • ▸Aggro beatdown with hasty artifact creatures backed by ramp

Archetypes

  • Artifact Reanimator — Mishra discards expensive artifacts cheaply, then Welder/Feldon/Daretti effects cheat them into play.
  • Big Mana Artifacts — The once-per-turn {R}{R} plus mana rocks ramps into colossal artifacts ahead of curve.
  • Spellslinger/Storm — Looting digs for rituals and recursion to chain spells and finish with burn or storm payoffs.
  • Combo — Repeatable card selection assembles loops with Underworld Breach, mana rocks, and recursion pieces.
