BuildCard details

The Commander

Shroud (This creature can't be the target of spells or abilities.)

Multani's power and toughness are each equal to the total number of cards in all players' hands.

Guide

Gameplan

Multani is a mono-green Voltron commander whose size scales with the total cards in every player's hand, so you load up on draw and wheels to inflate him while protecting him with shroud. Ramp him out early, hold up card advantage, and connect for commander damage—often turning a single swing into a kill with trample or double strike.

Strengths

  • Built-in shroud dodges targeted removal, spot kill, and aura/equipment-based control
  • Effectively free to make enormous by drawing cards and forcing opponents to refill hands
  • Mono-green gives consistent ramp, fast deployment, and easy recast after wraths
  • Trample and double strike convert his huge body into one-shot commander damage kills

Weaknesses

  • Shroud also stops your own protective auras, buffs, and Heroic Intervention—you can't target him
  • Board wipes and edicts still kill him since shroud isn't hexproof from sacrifice
  • If opponents dump or empty their hands, his power can crater unexpectedly
  • Mono-green lacks interaction, so combo and flier decks can race or stop the swing

Key Cards

  • Lifeblood Hydra — Wheels and mass draw both pump Multani and refund cards/life when creatures die.
  • Rishkar's Expertise — Draws cards equal to Multani's massive power, refueling your hand and growing him further.
  • Shamanic Revelation — Refills hands across the table and gains life, spiking Multani's size dramatically.
  • Garruk's Uprising — Gives Multani trample plus draws whenever a big creature enters or you deal combat damage.
  • Rancor — A recurring trample enabler that makes his huge body lethal and returns after wipes.
  • Greater Good — Lets you draw a hand-sized chunk by sacrificing a creature, ballooning Multani instantly.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into reliable evasion you can grant without targeting him—Garruk's Uprising, Rancor, and Whispersilk Cloak (it grants unblockable via equip, which still works)—plus protection like Heroic Intervention for the rest of your board. Add fast mana (Sol Ring, mana dorks, Nature's Lore) so he lands by turn 3-4, and pack reusable wheels or symmetrical draw to keep hands full. Top-end finishers like Triumph of the Hordes or Rishkar's Expertise turn one swing into a win.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Connecting with a trample or double-strike Multani for lethal commander damage
  • ▸Pumping him with mass-draw spells then swinging for 21+ across a couple turns
  • ▸Fling/Soul's Majesty-style effects to throw or leverage his enormous power
  • ▸Overrun-style team trample once Multani anchors a large board

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Multani's hand-scaled power makes him a one-creature beatdown that needs only trample to kill.
  • Big Mana / Stompy — Mono-green ramp deploys Multani fast and powers expensive card-draw payoffs.
  • Group Hug (semi) — Forcing everyone to draw cards directly inflates Multani's size as a win condition.
  • Wheel / Card Advantage — Mass-draw and wheel effects keep hands full, maximizing his power and toughness.
