BuildCard details

The Commander

Vigilance

Whenever Nelly Borca attacks, suspect target creature. Then goad all suspected creatures. (A suspected creature has menace and can't block.)

Whenever one or more creatures an opponent controls deal combat damage to one or more of your opponents, you and the controller of those creatures each draw a card.

Guide

Gameplan

Nelly Borca turns the whole table into your weapon: she suspects a creature each combat (giving it menace and disabling blocking), then goads all suspected creatures so opponents must attack each other. You sit back drawing cards every time those goaded attackers connect with someone else, while you punish and pillow-fort. Win by grinding card advantage into go-wide pressure, removal, or by leveraging the chaos with damage-doubling and forced-combat payoffs.

Strengths

  • Refills your hand off others' attacks, beating most RW decks' card-advantage problems
  • Forces opponents to fight each other, keeping you off the radar politically
  • Vigilance lets her attack and still hold the fort while goading enemy boards
  • Goad/suspect snowballs as more creatures accumulate menace and can't block you

Weaknesses

  • Relatively low impact if she's removed and you're light on attackers of your own
  • Goad can accelerate aggressive opponents toward whoever is weakest, not always you
  • Struggles against decks that win without attacking (combo, mill, alt-wins)
  • RW lacks tutors and ramp, so consistency and big mana are hard

Key Cards

  • Disrupt Decorum — Goads every creature an opponent controls, triggering Nelly's draw repeatedly and creating massive chaos.
  • Grand Melee — Forces all creatures to attack each turn, guaranteeing combat damage that feeds your card draw engine.
  • Crackdown — Lets you tap down or cripple goaded attackers while opponents are forced to swing at each other.
  • Marchesa's Decree — Goads all opponents' creatures each upkeep and punishes them for not attacking, perfectly synergizing with Nelly.
  • Assemble the Legion — Builds a token army to leverage all the cards Nelly draws into a closing board state.
  • Bloodthirsty Blade — Repeatable goad you can move each turn to keep forcing attacks and triggering draws.

Upgrade Path

Add more proactive goad sources (Disrupt Decorum, Marchesa's Decree, Hofri-style punishers) and damage doublers like Gisela, Blade of Goldnight or Fiery Emancipation to convert forced combat into kills. Improve mana with Smothering Tithe, Dockside Extortionist, and efficient RW rocks since the color pair lacks ramp, and round out with strong removal and a few token finishers like Hellrider or Cathars' Crusade so your card draw translates into a closing board.

  • Brash Taunter
  • Sun Titan
  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion
  • Temple of Triumph
  • Fiendish Duo
  • Selfless Squire

Win Conditions

  • ▸Out-grind the table on card advantage then alpha strike with a wide token board
  • ▸Punisher enchantments and combat damage whittle opponents down while they fight each other
  • ▸Damage-doubling effects (e.g., Fiery Emancipation) turn forced combat into lethal blowouts
  • ▸Voltron/equipment finish using the unblockable menace Nelly grants herself

Archetypes

  • Goad / Forced Combat — Her suspect-and-goad attack trigger is the centerpiece of pushing enemy creatures into each other.
  • Group Slug — You profit from opponents attacking via card draw and punisher enchantments while staying neutral.
  • Pillow Fort Control — Vigilance plus deterrents lets you redirect aggression elsewhere and win the long game on cards.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — The steady card advantage fuels a wide RW board to eventually swing for lethal.
