The Commander

{1}{B}: Exile target card from an opponent's graveyard. If no cards are in that graveyard, flip this creature.

{4}{B}: Put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.

Guide

Gameplan

Nezumi Graverobber is a cheap mono-black commander that grinds the game out through graveyard attrition, exiling opponents' best cards while flipping into Nighteyes the Desecrator to become a powerful reanimation engine. You play efficient removal and disruption early, use the {1}{B} ability to empty an opponent's graveyard for the flip, then repeatedly steal the best creatures from any graveyard with the {4}{B} ability. The deck wins on value and inevitability, reanimating threats your opponents kill or discard.

Strengths

  • Cheap two-mana commander that provides graveyard hate and reanimation in one card
  • Repeatable, instant-speed-ish recursion shuts down opposing graveyard strategies while feeding your own board
  • Mono-black gives access to the best tutors, ramp, and removal in the format
  • Self-recurring threat: hard to permanently deal with since you can recast it cheaply

Weaknesses

  • The {4}{B} ability is mana-hungry and only one activation per turn unless you untap
  • Relies on opponents (or yourself) filling graveyards with worthwhile creatures
  • Mono-black struggles with enchantments and noncreature permanents
  • No evasion or protection built in; the commander is fragile and a removal magnet
  • Flipping requires an opponent's graveyard to be empty, which can be awkward to set up

Key Cards

  • Buried Alive — Stuffs your own graveyard with huge creatures for Nighteyes to reanimate at will.
  • Entomb — A one-mana enabler that puts your best reanimation target into the yard instantly.
  • Bojuka Bog — Exiles a whole graveyard to help trigger the flip and disrupt opposing recursion.
  • Cabal Coffers — Generates the heavy mana needed to repeatedly fire off the {4}{B} reanimation ability.
  • Crypt Ghast — Doubles your black mana to make Nighteyes' expensive ability trivial to activate each turn.
  • Reanimate — Cheap backup reanimation that doesn't compete with the commander's slow activation cost.
  • Sheoldred, the Apocalypse — A premier reanimation target that punishes opponents and rewards your own draws.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and big-mana enablers (Cabal Coffers, Nykthos, Crypt Ghast, Nirkana Revenant) so you can chain the {4}{B} ability multiple times a turn, and lean on cheaper alternative reanimation (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Necromancy) to not depend solely on the commander. Tighten the toolbox of reanimation targets (Sheoldred, Razaketh, Archon of Cruelty) and add tutors like Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor to find them. Finish with a mono-black payoff like Torment of Hailfire and consider an aristocrats package (Bolas's Citadel, Gravecrawler, sac outlets) to convert recursion into damage.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Reanimating and beating down with oversized threats like Sheoldred or Grave Titan
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via repeatedly looping reanimated creatures with sacrifice outlets
  • ▸Inevitability through graveyard lock—exiling everyone's recursion until they run out of resources
  • ▸Big mana plus a finisher like Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Nighteyes turns any creature in any graveyard into a permanent threat you control.
  • Graveyard Hate / Control — The {1}{B} ability methodically exiles opponents' best recursion targets and combo pieces.
  • Aristocrats — Mono-black sacrifice loops pair well with reanimating your own dying creatures repeatedly.
  • Midrange Value — Cheap commander plus removal-heavy mono-black grinds opponents out over a long game.
