The Commander

At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may pay {X}{X}. When you do, distribute X +1/+1 counters among any number of target Elves.

Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)

Guide

Gameplan

Numa builds a wide Elf tribal board fueled by mana elves, then converts a flood of green mana into +1/+1 counters at combat to push lethal damage. You ramp hard early, dump elves, and use Numa's counter ability (often multiple times in a turn with untap/mana doublers) to make an overwhelming attack. Partner lets you pair a second commander for added consistency or a different angle.

Strengths

  • Explosive Elf-fueled mana means Numa's {X}{X} ability scales into game-ending swings
  • Strong tribal synergy package (lords, Elvish Archdruid, Priest of Titania) makes mana effectively infinite-ish
  • Counters are permanent and benefit from doublers and proliferate effects
  • Partner gives deckbuilding flexibility and a backup threat

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on a fragile elf board; a single board wipe sets you back enormously
  • Numa's ability does nothing without surplus mana, so mana denial and taxes hurt
  • Counters concentrated on creatures are vulnerable to removal and chump blocking
  • Mono-green lacks card draw, interaction, and removal compared to other colors

Key Cards

  • Priest of Titania — Generates massive green mana per elf to power Numa's {X}{X} ability repeatedly.
  • Elvish Archdruid — Lords the team and taps for huge mana scaling with your elf count.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Turns a wide, counter-pumped elf board into immediate lethal overrun damage.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles the +1/+1 counters Numa distributes for explosive growth.
  • Wirewood Symbiote — Untaps mana elves to chain extra mana and combat tricks each turn.
  • Ezuri, Renegade Leader — Provides overrun and regeneration, protecting and finishing your elf army.

Upgrade Path

Add mana doublers and untap engines (Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, Sword of the Paruns, Umbral Mantle, Staff of Domination) to make Numa activations near-limitless, and lean into counter doublers like Hardened Scales and Branching Evolution. Pick a partner that adds removal, draw, or a combo finish (e.g., a blue or black partner via your meta) and include protection like Heroic Intervention and Veil of Summer to guard against wraths.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or Ezuri after a counter-pumped swing
  • ▸Commander/combat damage from massively pumped elves via repeated Numa activations
  • ▸Infinite mana loops (Priest of Titania + untappers) turned into lethal counter distribution

Archetypes

  • Elf Tribal — Numa rewards a dense elf count for both mana production and counter distribution.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Counter distribution scales with board width, making token elves ideal damage carriers.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Numa's core ability synergizes with proliferate and counter doublers.
  • Combo — Mana elves plus untappers and doublers can generate huge or infinite mana to feed lethal Numa activations.
