BuildCard details

The Commander

When Odric enters, create X Blood tokens, where X is the number of abilities from among flying, first strike, double strike, deathtouch, haste, hexproof, indestructible, lifelink, menace, reach, trample, and vigilance found among creatures you control. (Count each ability only once.)

Guide

Gameplan

Assemble a wide board of creatures carrying many of the twelve tracked keywords, then leverage Odric's ETB to flood the table with Blood tokens. Use those Blood tokens to filter cards, fuel sacrifice/aristocrat payoffs, and keep up aggression while blinking or recasting Odric to repeat the trigger. You win by going wide with evasive keyword-stacked creatures or by converting Blood into card advantage and combo fuel.

Strengths

  • Generates large bursts of card-filtering Blood tokens that smooth draws and enable artifact/sacrifice synergies.
  • Cheap three-mana commander that comes down early and reloads value on every recast or blink.
  • Boros keyword-matters and aggro packages naturally hit many of the twelve tracked abilities.
  • Blood tokens double as fodder for aristocrats, treasure-style ramp adjacents, and graveyard payoffs.

Weaknesses

  • The ETB does nothing for the board state by itself—no keyword sharing like the original Odric, so payoff is indirect.
  • Needs creatures already in play to maximize the trigger, making it weak after a board wipe.
  • Boros lacks deep card draw and ramp outside the Blood tokens themselves.
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate and artifact removal that neutralize your Blood payoff.

Key Cards

  • Akroma, Angel of Fury — A single creature can carry many tracked keywords at once, spiking Odric's Blood count off one body.
  • Odric, Master Tactics — His original version actually shares keywords across your team, turning your wide board into an evasive lethal force.
  • Anje's Ravager — A premier Blood-token payoff that converts your hoard into explosive card advantage.
  • Sword of Hearth and Home — Blinks Odric to re-trigger his ETB while ramping and protecting him.
  • Sephara, Sky's Blade — Grants flying and lifelink board-wide, both tracked keywords, while flooding the board with bodies.
  • Goro-Goro and Satoru — Cheap reanimation and value adjacent—though prioritize Boros-legal blink like Restoration Angel for repeat triggers.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient blink and protection like Restoration Angel and Swiftfoot Boots to re-trigger and shield Odric. Lean into keyword-granting anthems (Sephara, Akroma's Memorial) and the original Odric, Master Tactics to convert your wide board into immediate kills. Round out with strong Blood payoffs (Anje's Ravager, Voldaren Epicure synergies) and aristocrat drains to make the tokens lethal rather than incidental.

  • ▸Voltron a single keyword-stacked threat with equipment for fast commander damage.
  • ▸Converting Blood into explosive card advantage to overwhelm with raw resources.

Archetypes

  • Keyword Aggro — Stack the twelve tracked abilities onto a wide board to both maximize Blood and apply evasive pressure.
  • Aristocrats — Blood tokens are free sacrifice fodder for drain and death-trigger payoffs.
  • Blink/Value — Repeatedly flickering Odric reloads Blood tokens for incremental card advantage.
  • Artifacts Matter — Blood tokens count as artifacts, fueling affinity, improvise, and artifact-sacrifice engines.
