BuildCard details

The Commander

{2}{G}, {T}: Create a 1/1 green Snake creature token. If you control ten or more creatures, flip this creature.

{G}, Sacrifice a creature: Target creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Tap Orochi Eggwatcher each turn to churn out 1/1 Snake tokens, flooding the board until you hit ten creatures and flip into Shidako, then convert that wide army into damage or sacrifice fodder for the +3/+3 pump ability. You're a go-wide mono-green tokens/Snake-tribal deck that wins by overwhelming with creatures or punching through with one big trampler.

Strengths

  • Reliable, repeatable token generation that builds a board from nothing
  • Mono-green gives access to the format's best ramp and the deepest card-advantage toolbox for creatures
  • The sacrifice pump ability turns excess tokens into combat tricks and finishers
  • Cheap commander that comes down turn three and immediately impacts the board

Weaknesses

  • Token strategy folds hard to a single board wipe like Wrath of God or Blasphemous Act
  • Slow clock—it takes several turns of tapping to assemble a threatening board
  • Mono-green lacks interaction, with no counterspells and limited removal
  • Flipping requires ten creatures, a real investment that can be reset by removal on the commander

Key Cards

  • Patriarch's Bidding — Mass-reanimates all your Snakes after a board wipe, refilling the army instantly.
  • Cryptolith Rite — Turns every Snake token into a mana source, snowballing your token output.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles the tokens Orochi makes, racing you to the ten-creature flip far faster.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — The premier finisher that converts your wide token board into lethal trampling damage.
  • Kamahl, Fist of Krosa — Animates lands and gives the whole team +3/+3 and trample for an immediate alpha strike.
  • Skullclamp — Sacrificing 1/1 Snake tokens to draw two cards each is an absurd engine in a token deck.

Upgrade Path

Add token doublers (Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, Anointed Procession) and free sacrifice outlets plus draw engines like Skullclamp to accelerate the flip and generate card advantage. Prioritize protection from wraths via Heroic Intervention and recursion like Patriarch's Bidding, and lean into a fast Craterhoof/Triumph of the Hordes finish so you don't grind out the slow midrange games that mono-green struggles to close.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun-style finisher (Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede, Kamahl) for lethal swing
  • ▸Going wide with anthem effects and beating down over multiple turns
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects fueled by sacrificing tokens

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Orochi is a built-in token factory and the deck wants to go as wide as possible.
  • Tribal (Snakes) — Every token is a Snake, enabling Snake lords and tribal payoffs like Patriarch's Bidding.
  • Aristocrats — The sacrifice ability and steady token supply support sacrifice-and-drain value engines.
  • Stompy — Mono-green ramp and pump effects let you build toward a single overrun finish.
