The Commander

Flying, vigilance, trample

Palladia-Mors has hexproof if it hasn't dealt damage yet.

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up Palladia-Mors as a Voltron threat: she enters with built-in evasion (flying/trample), can swing and block thanks to vigilance, and is hexproof until she connects, so you load auras and equipment safely before alpha-striking for commander damage. Each turn you ramp into her early, protect the stack of buffs, and close games by killing players one at a time with 21+ trampling damage.

Strengths

  • Hexproof-until-damage makes early Voltron investment far safer than typical aura/equipment commanders
  • Flying, vigilance, and trample give evasion, defense, and overflow damage all on one body
  • Naya colors offer the format's best ramp, equipment, and combat tricks
  • Trample plus pumps lets her punch through chump blockers for lethal commander damage

Weaknesses

  • Loses hexproof the moment she deals damage, opening her to removal mid-combat or afterward
  • Classic Voltron 'all eggs in one basket' fragility to board wipes and edicts
  • Six mana to recast after repeated removal stresses the deck's tempo
  • No inherent card advantage engine — can run out of gas if she's neutralized

Key Cards

  • Swiftfoot Boots — Adds haste and lasting protection so she stays threatening even after she has connected and lost native hexproof.
  • Shifting Shadow — Cheap repeatable equipment-style protection isn't it; rather use it as evasion enabler—skip if irrelevant.
  • Bear Umbra — Totem armor protects against removal while untapping your lands for a second activation or pump after attacking.
  • Rancor — Recurring trample-boosting aura that comes back after wipes, perfect for a trample-focused Voltron threat.
  • Embercleave — Massive cheap power boost with double strike and trample that can produce one-shot commander kills.
  • Generous Gift — Naya needs interaction; flexible removal keeps blockers and rival threats off your path to lethal.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Birds of Paradise, Smothering Tithe) to deploy her ahead of schedule, then prioritize cheap protection and one-shot enablers like Lightning Greaves, Sigarda's Aid, and Embercleave. Tighten the curve toward proactive Voltron pieces and include enough interaction (Swords to Plowshares, Beast Within) to clear blockers and answer rival combos before they outrace you.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Dealing 21+ trampling commander damage to opponents one at a time
  • ▸Embercleave or double-strike effects enabling a one-shot kill

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Hexproof-until-damage plus evasion makes her an ideal carrier for auras and equipment aiming for commander-damage kills.
  • Aggro/Stompy — Naya ramp into big trampling threats supports a fast, beat-down creature plan alongside the commander.
  • Aura/Equipment Midrange — Vigilance lets her both attack and defend while wearing a stack of permanent buffs.
