BuildCard details

The Commander

The first historic spell you cast each turn has convoke. (Your creatures can help cast it. Each creature you tap while casting it pays for {1} or one mana of that creature's color.)

Doctor's companion (You can have two commanders if the other is the Doctor.)

Guide

Gameplan

Peri Brown is a Doctor's companion, so she pairs with a Doctor partner to set your real strategy while she greases the wheels by giving your first historic spell each turn convoke. Build a wide creature base and a deck stuffed with artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas so you can deploy expensive historic bombs ahead of curve by tapping your board. Turn to turn you flood the field with tokens or cheap creatures, then convoke out a big artifact, equipment, or legendary engine, and grind the game out with value.

Strengths

  • Effectively ramps you toward expensive historic spells without spending real mana, letting you tap a token army to cast a 6-drop artifact early
  • Pairs with any Doctor for a flexible two-commander shell, opening into multiple color identities and strategies
  • Mono-white legality means strong access to token producers and anthem/go-wide payoffs that feed convoke
  • Synergizes naturally with artifact, legendary, and Saga-heavy builds that are already common in cEDH-adjacent value decks

Weaknesses

  • Convoke only applies to the FIRST historic spell each turn, capping the explosiveness
  • Her ability does nothing if you cast a non-historic spell or have no creatures to tap
  • Mono-white alone is slow and card-disadvantaged without the right Doctor partner to provide draw or ramp
  • Tapping creatures to convoke leaves you open to attacks and removes blockers
  • Doesn't impact the board herself; she's a support piece, not a threat

Key Cards

  • Smothering Tithe — Generates a flood of Treasure tokens that double as convoke fuel and ramp.
  • Mondrak, Glory Dominus — Doubles your token production, giving you a deeper pool of creatures to convoke historic spells.
  • Anointed Procession — Multiplies tokens to build the wide board Peri wants for convoke.
  • Esper Sentinel — A cheap historic creature that draws cards and can itself be convoked or help convoke.
  • Urza's Saga — A historic Saga that makes a creature token and tutors artifacts, feeding the convoke engine.
  • The Wandering Emperor — A flexible historic planeswalker (legendary) that benefits from her convoke discount.

Upgrade Path

Pick a Doctor partner that covers white's weaknesses—blue for card draw or green for extra tokens and ramp—to make the pairing far stronger. Lean hard into cheap, repeatable token makers and historic payoffs so convoke is always live, and add fast mana like Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, and signets to deploy first-turn historic threats. Tighten the deck with efficient removal and a focused win condition (overrun, infinite-token combo, or Voltron) rather than playing scattered good-stuff.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Go-wide token alpha strike backed by anthems and overrun effects
  • ▸Slamming an early convoked artifact bomb (e.g. a big mana rock into a finisher) to snowball the board
  • ▸Commander damage with a Doctor partner suited up by convoked equipment
  • ▸Grinding incremental value from cheaply-cast legendaries and Sagas until opponents are buried

Archetypes

  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Wide creature boards directly power convoke, making token generators do double duty as ramp.
  • Artifacts — Most artifacts are historic, so Peri lets you slam expensive ones a turn or two early each turn.
  • Value / Midrange — Convoke smooths your curve so you can chain legendary and Saga value engines ahead of schedule.
  • Voltron (with the right Doctor) — Historic equipment can be convoked out cheaply to suit up a Doctor commander quickly.
