BuildCard details

The Commander

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to black and green is less than seven, Pharika isn't a creature.

{B}{G}: Exile target creature card from a graveyard. Its owner creates a 1/1 black and green Snake enchantment creature token with deathtouch.

Guide

Gameplan

Pharika turns graveyards into a renewable engine, churning out 1/1 deathtouch Snakes from any creature card in any yard for {B}{G} a pop. You play a grindy midrange/aristocrats game, building devotion to make Pharika a hard-to-kill 5/5 while sacrificing and recurring Snakes for value, removal, and eventually a token-based or drain-based kill.

Strengths

  • Indestructible commander that's hard to remove and never costs more to recast
  • Repeatable token generation creates infinite sacrifice fodder and chump blockers
  • Strong graveyard hate that doubles as your own engine, hosing reanimator/dredge decks
  • Deathtouch Snakes make excellent fight/ping and deterrent blockers

Weaknesses

  • Snake tokens are slow and unimpressive on their own without payoffs
  • Devotion requirement means Pharika often sits as a non-creature enchantment, limiting Voltron plans
  • Mana-hungry: activating repeatedly competes with developing your board
  • Vulnerable to enchantment removal and graveyard exile in response to opponents' yards drying up

Key Cards

  • Nyx-Fleece Ram — High devotion pips help flip Pharika into a creature while stabilizing your life.
  • Gravecrawler — Recursive sac fodder that feeds Pharika activations and aristocrat loops.
  • Blood Artist — Turns every sacrificed Snake into incremental drain, a primary win path.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet that converts Snakes into mana to fuel more Pharika activations.
  • Skullclamp — Draws two cards off every 1/1 Snake, turning the token engine into a card-advantage machine.
  • Bontu's Monument — Adds black devotion and drains opponents each time you cast creatures in aristocrats lines.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, signets) and free sac outlets like Phyrexian Altar and Viscera Seer to enable engine loops, then layer payoffs such as Pitiless Plunderer and Bastion of Remembrance for closing power. Tighten the curve with efficient BG removal and tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to find Skullclamp or a combo finisher, and lean into a Mikaeus/Gravecrawler or Pawn of Ulamog package for repeatable value.
