BuildCard details

The Commander

At the beginning of combat on your turn, create a green Aura enchantment token named Settlement attached to up to one target land you control. It has enchant land and "Enchanted land has '{T}: Add one mana of any color.'"

Whenever Preston Garvey attacks, untap each enchanted permanent you control.

Guide

Gameplan

Preston Garvey grinds out a sprawling, enchantment-laden board by spawning Settlement Auras on your lands every combat, turning them into any-color mana dorks and fueling explosive ramp. When he attacks he untaps every enchanted permanent you control—so Auras on lands, enchanted mana creatures, and tapped attackers all refresh, letting you generate huge mana for a midcombat blowout. You win by going wide with Auras/enchantress card advantage and dumping that mana into game-ending spells or by suiting up a single beater for voltron damage.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable ramp every turn via Settlement tokens that fix all five colors
  • Untap trigger enables explosive midcombat mana surges and pseudo-vigilance for enchanted creatures
  • Naya colors give access to the format's best enchantress payoffs, ramp, and aura tutors
  • Builds a wide enchantment-matters board that fuels constellation and aura synergies

Weaknesses

  • Aura/enchantment-heavy strategies are very vulnerable to board wipes and enchantment removal (Bane of Progress, Back to Nature)
  • Auras create 2-for-1 risk: lose the creature, lose the Aura
  • Mana surge only pays off if you have a mana sink in hand—can fizzle into nothing
  • Settlement tokens only trigger at combat, so the engine is slow to start and easy to disrupt by killing Preston

Key Cards

  • Argothian Enchantress — Draws a card for every enchantment you cast, snowballing your Aura and Settlement-heavy board into card advantage.
  • Ellliot, the rebel scoundrel — Any enchantress-style payoff; replace with Eidolon of Blossoms or Setessan Champion to refill your hand off Auras.
  • Setessan Champion — Constellation card draw plus +1/+1 counters makes it a centerpiece that grows with every Settlement token.
  • Sram, Senior Edificer — Draws a card each time you cast an Aura, perfectly complementing a voltron-aura build.
  • Ancestral Mask — Scales massively with your wide enchantment board, turning one enchanted creature into a one-shot voltron kill.
  • Nylea's Colossus — A finisher payoff—use the untap mana surge and doubled combat damage to close games quickly.
  • Knight of the Reliquary — Untaps with Preston's attack trigger if enchanted, and the Settlement-fueled mana plays into a lands subtheme.

Upgrade Path

Lean into enchantress density—add Enchantress's Presence, Eidolon of Blossoms, and Verduran Enchantress so the deck draws relentlessly off Auras and Settlements. Add protection like Heroic Intervention, Sterling Grove, and Greater Auramancy to insulate against the format's brutal enchantment/board wipes, and include a mana sink finisher (Aggravated Assault for infinite combats with enough mana, or a big X spell) so your untap surges always convert to wins. Tighten the mana base with fetch/dual lands and Three Visits-style ramp to hit Preston on time and keep the engine reliable.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Aura voltron beatdown with Ancestral Mask, Eldrazi Conscription, or Daybreak Coronet on an evasive creature
  • ▸Explosive mana from untapped Settlements into a game-ending X spell like Torment of Hailfire or Genesis Wave
  • ▸Going wide with enchantress card advantage and overrunning via Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede
  • ▸Doubling combat damage with Nylea's Colossus or Aggravated Assault loops fueled by the untap trigger

Archetypes

  • Enchantress — Settlement tokens and any Auras you cast trigger card-draw engines like Argothian Enchantress and Setessan Champion.
  • Aura Voltron — Pile Auras onto one creature and use the untap trigger as evasion/vigilance to swing in for lethal commander or enchantment-boosted damage.
  • Big Mana Ramp — Every combat adds an any-color mana source, and attacking untaps them for explosive ramp into huge X spells or Eldrazi.
  • Lands / Constellation — Settlement Auras land-target nature pairs with constellation triggers and land-matters payoffs each turn.
