The Commander

Guide

Gameplan

Princess Lucrezia is a barebones Dimir commander whose only printed value is tapping for blue mana, so she functions less as an engine and more as a color-identity anchor that lets your 99 do the heavy lifting. You play a controlling Dimir game—counter, kill, and card-draw your way to the late game—then deploy a powerful win package once you've stabilized. Use her mana to help cast a key spell a turn early, and lean on the deck rather than the command zone for your plan.

Strengths

  • Access to the format's best counterspells, targeted removal, and card draw in the UB color pair
  • Commander is cheap to protect/recast relative to her impact since her ability is minor
  • Flexible shell that can pivot between control, reanimator, and combo plans

Weaknesses

  • Commander provides almost no built-in advantage—essentially a 6-mana mana dork
  • No evasion, no card draw, and no inherent win pressure from the command zone
  • Slow and reactive; can fall behind aggressive or go-wide boards
  • Tapping for a single blue is poor value at six mana, so casting her is rarely a priority

Key Cards

  • Rhystic Study — Premier UB-legal card advantage engine to fuel a grindy control plan.
  • Mystic Remora — Cheap early card draw that keeps you ahead while the deck sets up.
  • Cyclonic Rift — Blue's best one-sided board reset to break stalemates and enable a finish.
  • Toxic Deluge — Scalable black sweeper that answers go-wide strategies the commander can't.
  • Demonic Tutor — Finds your wincon or answer of choice in a deck that wins from the 99.

Upgrade Path

Since the commander adds little, invest in fast mana (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, signets) and the best interaction—Force of Will, Mana Drain, Fierce Guardianship—so you can protect a wincon from the 99. Replace clunky midrange cards with tutors (Vampiric Tutor, Mystical Tutor) to consistently find a compact two-card combo, then add reanimation targets or a mill engine like Bruvac for a faster, more reliable finish.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Resolve a finisher like Thassa's Oracle or a reanimated game-ending threat
  • ▸Mill the table out with Bruvac the Grandiloquent plus mill doublers
  • ▸Grind out value and close with a big evasive bomb or extra-turn loop
  • ▸Assemble a UB combo (e.g., infinite mana into an X-draw outlet) for a deterministic kill

Archetypes

  • Control — Full access to UB counters, removal, and draw lets you durdle and dictate the game.
  • Reanimator — Black reanimation plus blue dig and discard outlets cheat huge threats into play.
  • Combo — UB hosts compact two-card combos and the disruption to protect them.
  • Mill — Dimir's signature plan can attack all opponents' libraries while you stall the board.
