Gameplan

Prompto is a mono-red spellslinger payoff who turns expensive noncreature spells into Treasure tokens, ramping you into even bigger spells and explosive turns. Cast a steady stream of 4+ mana instants, sorceries, and X-spells to snowball Treasures, then convert that mana into a game-ending burn spell, a big X-spell, or storm-style payoffs. Early game you deploy ramp and cost-efficient threats; mid-game you chain large spells while accumulating Treasure to push past interaction.

Strengths

  • Generates a renewable Treasure stream that doubles as ramp, fixing, and combo fuel in a color usually starved for both
  • Cheap two-mana body with haste applies pressure immediately and can chip in or carry equipment
  • Rewards a deckbuilding niche (big noncreature spells) that synergizes naturally with X-spells and burn
  • Treasures enable explosive multi-spell turns and help cast a backbreaking finisher out of nowhere

Weaknesses

  • Mono-red lacks card advantage and struggles against go-wide blockers and lifegain
  • Trigger requires four+ mana actually spent, so it does nothing off cheap spells or cost reductions
  • Treasures are a one-shot resource and feed artifact/sacrifice hate and Treasure-punishers like Collector Ouphe effects
  • Highly commander-dependent; removal slows the whole engine and red has weak protection
  • No inherent evasion or recursion, so grindy decks can outlast it

  • Banefire — Uncounterable X-burn that converts a hoard of Treasures directly into a kill while triggering Treasure creation.
  • Birgi, God of Storytelling — Adds even more ritual-style mana off your spell chains, supercharging the Treasure-into-bigger-spell loop.
  • Underworld Breach — Recasts your big spells from the graveyard, turning Treasures into a recursive engine and potential combo.
  • Storm-Kiln Artist — Makes additional Treasures per spell cast, stacking with Prompto for absurd mana on busy turns.
  • Jeska's Will — Explosive ritual that refills your hand and mana, perfect for kickstarting a Treasure-fueled big turn.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ritual effects (Mana Geyser, Seething Song, Dockside Extortionist) to consistently hit the four-mana threshold early, then build toward an Underworld Breach + ritual loop or a one-shot X-burn finish. Improve card flow with red impulse draw (Light Up the Stage, Wheel of Misfortune) since color identity caps your selection. Tighten the curve so most noncreature spells naturally cost four or more, and include protection like Deflecting Swat to safeguard your engine turns.
