BuildCard details

The Commander

When you cast this spell, create X 0/1 red Kobold creature tokens named Kobolds of Kher Keep, where X is the amount of mana spent to cast it.

Flying

Sacrifice another creature: Prossh gets +1/+0 until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Prossh and immediately generate a swarm of Kobold tokens equal to mana spent, giving you instant board presence and fodder. Convert that fodder into damage either through Prossh's pump ability for commander damage, or by feeding it to sacrifice engines and Food Chain combos. You grind value off creatures dying while threatening lethal swings.

Strengths

  • Comes with a built-in army of tokens the moment you cast it, making it resilient to early removal
  • Enables the iconic Food Chain infinite combo for a fast, compact win
  • Excellent free sacrifice fodder fuels aristocrats engines and one-shot commander damage kills
  • Jund colors give access to the best removal, ramp, and recursion in the format

Weaknesses

  • Six mana commander that demands ramp to deploy meaningfully early
  • Heavily reliant on having sac outlets and payoffs in play to convert tokens into impact
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that remove the Kobold army and reset tempo
  • Food Chain combo lines can be disrupted by graveyard hate or stax pieces and feel linear

Key Cards

  • Food Chain — Exiling Prossh for mana that can only cast creatures, then recasting him for net mana, generates infinite mana and infinite Kobolds.
  • Goblin Bombardment — A free sacrifice outlet that turns infinite Kobolds into infinite damage to close the game.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Sacrifices Kobolds for mana to fuel combos and ramp into faster Prossh recasts.
  • Dragon Tempest — Pings everyone for damage equal to power as each Kobold and Prossh enters, an instant payoff for your token flood.
  • Skullclamp — Turns 0/1 Kobolds into a relentless card-draw engine, refilling your hand off expendable fodder.
  • Grave Pact — Converts your sacrifice synergies into mass removal, stripping opponents' boards every time you feed an outlet.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the Food Chain package with tutors like Demonic Tutor, Worldly Tutor, and Eladamri's Call, plus Squee, Goblin Nabob or Misthollow Griffin as backup infinite-mana payoffs. Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, ritual effects, Jeweled Lotus) so you can deploy Prossh on turn three or four, and run efficient interaction like Deflecting Swat and Veil of Summer to protect your combo turn. Prioritize free sac outlets and drain effects so any board state can pivot from value grinding into a clean kill.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Food Chain + Prossh + a free sac outlet (Goblin Bombardment) for infinite damage
  • ▸One-shot commander damage by sacrificing your board to pump Prossh and swinging in the air
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, or Bastion of Remembrance off mass sacrifice
  • ▸Overrun effects like Craterhoof Behemoth turning the Kobold swarm lethal

Archetypes

  • Combo — Food Chain plus Prossh produces infinite creature mana and infinite Kobolds for a deterministic kill.
  • Aristocrats — The free sac ability and Kobold army feed sacrifice payoffs like Blood Artist and Grave Pact.
  • Tokens — Casting Prossh floods the board with Kobolds that anthem effects and sac fodder synergies exploit.
  • Voltron — Prossh's flying plus sacrificing creatures for +1/+0 can deal 21 commander damage in a single swing.
