BuildCard details

The Commander

Spirits you control get +1/+0.

Whenever one or more cards leave your graveyard, create a 3/2 red and white Spirit creature token.

Guide

Gameplan

Build a wide board of 3/2 Spirit tokens by repeatedly exiling or recasting cards from your graveyard, then alpha strike with anthem-boosted attackers. Early turns develop ramp and self-mill/dump cards into the graveyard; mid-game, effects that exile cards from your yard (flashback, foretell, escape, adventure, processors) each trigger a token, snowballing the army.

Strengths

  • Each graveyard-leaving event makes a token, so a single spell can spawn multiple Spirits and an army very quickly
  • Built-in anthem (+1/+0 to Spirits) turns 3/2 tokens into efficient 4/2 attackers
  • Cheap to recast at 5 mana and rewards recursion-heavy, value-grindy lines
  • Goes wide fast, capitalizing on token payoffs and overrun effects

Weaknesses

  • Highly board-wipe vulnerable since the strategy is all-in on creature tokens
  • Tokens are fragile 2-toughness bodies easy to sweep or chump
  • No evasion or protection baked in, so it can stall against bigger blockers
  • Boros lacks strong card draw and ramp, leading to resource droughts

Key Cards

  • Faithless Looting — Cheap to fill the graveyard and its flashback exiles itself for an extra token.
  • Skullclamp — Turns excess 3/2 Spirits into a card-draw engine, fueling more triggers and refills.
  • Bojuka Bog — A reusable way to exile cards from your own graveyard repeatedly when looped with land recursion.
  • Soul of Windgrace — Sacrifices lands and returns them, but cards leaving the graveyard each turn trigger Quintorius.
  • Sevinne's Reclamation — Flashback recursion that triggers tokens twice and rebuilds your board after wipes.
  • Underworld Breach — Repeatedly escapes cards out of the graveyard, generating a flurry of Spirit tokens.

Upgrade Path

Add token doublers and overrun payoffs like Anointed Procession and Craterhoof Behemoth to convert wide boards into kills, plus protective pieces such as Heroic Intervention against wipes. Lean into repeatable graveyard-exile loops (Underworld Breach, Sevinne's Reclamation, dredge/escape cards) for explosive trigger counts, and fix Boros's weaknesses with ramp rocks and card advantage like Smothering Tithe and Esper Sentinel.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide Spirit army boosted by anthem and overrun effects for a combat alpha strike
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects sacrificing endless tokens
  • ▸Skullclamp-fueled value engine grinding opponents out before swinging

Archetypes

  • Tokens / Go-Wide Aggro — Every graveyard exile spawns a Spirit, and his anthem buffs the whole team for lethal swings.
  • Graveyard Value / Recursion — Flashback, escape, and recast effects each trigger tokens while still getting the spell's value.
  • Aristocrats — Endless fragile Spirit bodies feed sacrifice outlets and drain effects.
  • Spellslinger — Flashback and recast spells generate tokens, blending instants/sorceries with a creature swarm.
