BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever you cast your first spell during each of your turns, exile the top card of target opponent's library and create a Treasure token. Then you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost if it's a spell with mana value less than the number of artifacts you control. If you don't cast it this way, you may cast it this turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast a spell each turn to exile an opponent's top card, generate a Treasure, and ideally free-cast it once your artifact count is high enough. You're a value-driven Temur midrange/spellslinger deck that snowballs on artifacts and Treasures to chain bigger and bigger free casts, eventually overwhelming the table with card and mana advantage.

Strengths

  • Generates Treasure and card advantage every single turn just by curving out
  • Artifact-count scaling rewards a heavy artifact/ramp shell and enables increasingly large free casts
  • Excellent in the best three colors for ramp, card draw, and interaction
  • Treasure synergies fix mana and fuel big payoffs

Weaknesses

  • Trigger only hits on your FIRST spell each turn, so sequencing matters and instant-speed plans suffer
  • Steals from a single opponent's library, so quality is random and out of your control
  • Four mana 3-toughness body dies to most removal and chip damage, taxing you on recasts
  • Needs a critical mass of artifacts before the free-cast clause actually fires

Key Cards

  • Mana Vault — Cheap artifact that both ramps and pads your artifact count for free casts on turn one.
  • Dockside Extortionist — Floods you with Treasures, instantly boosting artifact count and explosive mana.
  • Smothering Tithe — Snowballs Treasures across all turns, padding artifact count and enabling huge free casts.
  • Brass's Bounty — Turns lands into a wall of Treasures, spiking your artifact count for massive exiled-card casts.
  • Cyclonic Rift — Premier blue payoff you can free-cast off the trigger for a one-sided board reset.
  • Mystic Forge — Lets you machine-gun artifacts off the top, building count and chaining value.

Upgrade Path

Lean into cheap artifacts (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Signets) so the free-cast clause comes online early and stays large, then add fast Treasure makers like Dockside Extortionist and Jeska's Will. Tighten the curve so your first spell each turn is always meaningful, and add protection like Heroic Intervention plus tutors and a tight win package (e.g., a Treasure-fueled combo) to convert your inevitable advantage before the table stabilizes.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Snowballing free spells and Treasure into overwhelming card and board advantage
  • ▸One-sided board wipes like Cyclonic Rift followed by a hasty alpha strike
  • ▸Big mana payoffs (X-spells, expensive bombs) cast for free or off Treasure
  • ▸Combo finishes powered by Treasure ramp such as infinite-mana outlets

Archetypes

  • Spellslinger — Casting impactful spells every turn maximizes the free-cast trigger and value engine.
  • Artifacts/Treasures — High artifact count directly powers the free-cast clause and ramps you ahead.
  • Temur Midrange Value — The command zone provides relentless incremental advantage to grind opponents out.
  • Big Mana Combo — Treasure and ramp pieces let you assemble combo finishes or storm-style turns.
