BuildCard details

The Commander

Rasputin enters with seven dream counters on it.

Remove a dream counter from Rasputin: Add {C}.

Remove a dream counter from Rasputin: Prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt to Rasputin this turn.

At the beginning of your upkeep, if Rasputin started the turn untapped, put a dream counter on it.

Rasputin can't have more than seven dream counters on it.

Guide

Gameplan

Rasputin is a colorless mana battery that can dump up to seven {C} a turn, then refuel each upkeep if he stayed untapped. Use that burst mana to power expensive artifacts, X-spells, or eldrazi while controlling the board with UW's removal and protection suite. Win by leveraging the mana advantage into a big spell or an infinite combo built around recharging his counters.

Strengths

  • Effectively a 7-mana ritual on a stick, fueling colorless-hungry payoffs
  • Built-in damage prevention keeps him alive against burn and small attackers
  • Refills his own counters every untapped upkeep for repeatable value
  • UW gives access to the best removal, counterspells, and protection in the format

Weaknesses

  • Tapping him (to attack or activate) stops the upkeep recharge, so the engine is slow
  • Only produces colorless mana, which is awkward for casting colored spells
  • Six mana for a do-nothing-on-cast body invites being removed before he pays off
  • Combo-reliant builds fold to graveyard hate, counters, and instant-speed removal

Key Cards

  • Dramatic Reversal — With enough nonland mana rocks, untapping Rasputin while he produces {C} can generate infinite colorless mana.
  • Aphetto Alchemist — Untaps Rasputin to drain his counters repeatedly, and combos with mana doublers for infinite mana.
  • Pemmin's Aura — Repeatedly untaps Rasputin to spend and (via other doublers) loop his counters for massive mana.
  • Power Conduit — Moves dream counters around and lets you abuse Rasputin's recharge for counter-based loops.
  • Voltaic Construct — Untaps Rasputin to drain counters, enabling infinite colorless mana with a mana doubler.
  • Walking Ballista — A premier colorless mana sink that converts infinite {C} into infinite damage to win.

Upgrade Path

Lean into the untap-loop combos with Dramatic Reversal, Isochron Scepter, and mana doublers like Caged Sun or Gauntlet of Power to break the colorless output, then add Walking Ballista or Blue Sun's Zenith as finishers. Tighten the manabase with fast colorless rocks (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Grim Monolith) and protect the combo with cheap counterspells. Add tutors like Muddle the Mixture and Whir of Invention to find your pieces consistently.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Infinite colorless mana into Walking Ballista or other sink for lethal
  • ▸Casting an Eldrazi titan or game-ending X-spell off banked mana
  • ▸Grinding incremental value with UW control until a single big spell closes it
  • ▸Comboing with untap loops to cast your whole deck

Archetypes

  • Combo — His on-demand {C} production plus untap effects creates infinite-mana loops that win through a sink.
  • Control — UW backbone lets you stall the game while Rasputin banks mana for game-ending plays.
  • Big Mana / Ramp — Seven colorless mana fuels eldrazi, expensive artifacts, and huge X-spells ahead of curve.
  • Stax — Colorless mana keeps your engine running under symmetric taxes and mana denial others can't pay through.
