BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Guide

Gameplan

Reya is a mono-white reanimator engine: cheat or ramp her out, survive a turn, then recur a creature from your graveyard every upkeep for free. You stockpile high-impact creatures in the yard, then grind the board with repeatable resurrection while value bombs and stax effects keep opponents from racing you.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable reanimation every upkeep with no mana cost once she's online
  • Mono-white gives access to the best tutors-by-type, board wipes, and recursion redundancy
  • Loops well with sacrifice outlets and ETB creatures for inevitable advantage
  • Flying body that blocks and chips while protecting your engine

Weaknesses

  • Nine mana commander that demands heavy ramp or cheat effects to deploy on curve
  • Engine only triggers on your upkeep, so she does nothing the turn she lands and is slow against fast combo
  • Single-target removal or exile on Reya shuts the whole plan down
  • Mono-white struggles for raw card draw and big mana ramp compared to other colors

Key Cards

  • Karmic Guide — Doubles as an extra reanimation effect and forms an infinite loop with a sac outlet and Reveillark or Saffi.
  • Reveillark — Reanimates small creatures on death and is the centerpiece of the classic Karmic Guide infinite loop.
  • Sun Titan — A premier white value reanimation target that recurs your cheap permanents every turn.
  • Emeria, the Sky Ruin — A second engine that returns creatures from your yard on upkeep, stacking with Reya for double recursion.
  • Reveillark — Combo enabler that turns Reya into a value machine and a kill engine.
  • Animate Dead — Cheap reanimation to deploy bombs early before Reya comes down.
  • Solemn Simulacrum — Recurring ramp and card draw that mono-white badly wants to recycle every upkeep.
  • Buried Alive — Stocks your graveyard with the best reanimation targets to feed Reya immediately.

Upgrade Path

Add cheat-into-play and ramp to fix her cost: Reanimate, Reveillark/Karmic Guide loops, Anointed Procession-style multipliers, and mana rocks like Smothering Tithe and Sol Ring. Lean into a combo finish (Blood Artist + sac outlet + the Karmic Guide loop) and run protection such as Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuver, and Swiftfoot Boots to keep Reya alive. Tutors like Enlightened Tutor and Buried Alive plus Emeria, the Sky Ruin give consistency and a redundant recursion engine.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Infinite death/reanimation loops with Reveillark, Karmic Guide and a sac outlet draining the table
  • ▸Recurring a value board (Sun Titan, Solemn, Angels) and grinding opponents out
  • ▸Repeatedly reanimating a finisher like Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat for incremental drain
  • ▸Beating down with a flying angelic board backed by endless recursion

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Her free upkeep recursion makes graveyard value the entire point of the deck.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrifice outlets plus repeatable reanimation create death-trigger value and combo loops.
  • Combo — Karmic Guide/Reveillark plus a sac outlet and Reya enable infinite ETB/death loops.
  • Stax — Mono-white control pieces buy time to assemble her slow but inevitable engine.
