Rohgahh, Kher Keep Overlord

Mana value5Rank#17,940
BuildCard details

The Commander

Other Kobolds you control get +2/+2.

Whenever you cast a Kobold spell, you may pay {2}. If you do, create a 4/4 red Dragon creature token with flying.

Whenever you cast a Dragon spell, create a 0/1 red Kobold creature token named Kobolds of Kher Keep.

Guide

Gameplan

Rohgahh turns Magic's iconic free 0/1 Kobolds into a relentless token engine: anthem them into 2/2s, generate 4/4 flying Dragons every time you cast a Kobold (paying {2}), and spit out more Kobolds whenever you cast a Dragon. You flood the board for free, then convert that army into damage via burn payoffs, aristocrats, or a wide alpha strike.

Strengths

  • Free Kobold spells (mana value 0) make Rohgahh's Dragon engine extremely mana-efficient once he's out
  • Two-way token loop scales fast, giving you both go-wide bodies and evasive 4/4 fliers
  • Cheap creatures pair perfectly with Skullclamp, sacrifice outlets, and ETB-damage payoffs
  • Aristocrats and burn finishers give multiple non-combat win angles

Weaknesses

  • Almost entirely dependent on Rohgahh; without the commander your Kobolds are vanilla 0/1s and the engine stops
  • Highly vulnerable to board wipes given how invested you are in the battlefield
  • Commander tax and repeated removal can choke the deck since Rohgahh costs 5
  • Limited interaction in BR means you can struggle against combo and control

Key Cards

  • Kobolds of Kher Keep — A free 0/1 that triggers the Dragon engine and becomes a 2/2 under Rohgahh's anthem.
  • Crimson Kobolds — Another zero-cost Kobold that fuels Dragon tokens and Skullclamp for nothing.
  • Crookshank Kobolds — Rounds out the free-Kobold package to maximize Dragon triggers per turn.
  • Skullclamp — Equip a 0/1 Kobold to draw two cards as it dies, turning your free creatures into a card-advantage motor.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge — Every Kobold and Dragon token entering deals 2 to each opponent, often a kill on its own.
  • Dragon Tempest — Both your tokens and cast Dragons ping or haste-swing, converting the engine directly into damage.
  • Impact Tremors — Cheap, repeatable damage that scales with your flood of token creatures.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Makes Treasure when your sacrificed Kobolds die, refunding mana to keep casting and paying the {2}.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and protection (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Lightning Greaves) so Rohgahh sticks and the {2} payments come easily, plus recursion like Feldon of the Third Path or Phyrexian Reclamation to rebuild after wipes. Layer in more 'enter the battlefield' and 'dies' payoffs (Terror of the Peaks, Mayhem Devil, Goblin Bombardment) and a free sacrifice outlet to make the token flood lethal in one turn. To push higher, lean into Skullclamp-driven card draw and a Pitiless Plunderer/Treasure loop to chain Kobold and Dragon casts explosively.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸ETB burn from Purphoros and Impact Tremors as tokens pour onto the battlefield
  • ▸Wide alpha strike with 2/2 Kobolds backed by evasive 4/4 Dragons
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Bastion of Remembrance loops
  • ▸Goblin Bombardment / sacrifice damage flinging your army at faces

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Rohgahh generates a steady stream of Kobolds and 4/4 Dragons, building a wide, go-tall hybrid board.
  • Aristocrats — Endless free bodies feed sacrifice outlets and death-trigger payoffs like Blood Artist effects.
  • Tribal (Kobold/Dragon) — He bridges two tribes, letting Kobold and Dragon lords and payoffs both pull weight.
  • Spellslinger-adjacent — Casting cheap creature 'spells' triggers cast-based payoffs and storm-style engines.
