The Commander

Other tapped creatures you control have deathtouch.

Other untapped creatures you control have hexproof.

{1}, {T}: Untap another target creature or land you control.

Guide

Gameplan

Saryth turns your creatures into a fortress: untapped ones can't be targeted, and tapped ones kill anything they fight. You ramp into big mana creatures and beaters, use Saryth's untap ability to double up on mana dorks or reuse tap abilities, and grind out value while attacking with effectively unkillable, deathtouch-trading creatures. Win by going wide or tall under heavy protection.

Strengths

  • Blanket hexproof on untapped creatures makes your board extremely resilient to targeted removal
  • Deathtouch on tapped attackers/blockers wins combat and discourages attacks into you
  • Untap ability enables ramp doubling, mana rock/dork reuse, and tap-ability abuse
  • Cheap commander that protects your investment in big mono-green threats

Weaknesses

  • Mono-green struggles with flyers, hard board wipes, and noncreature permanents
  • Protection is conditional—creatures lose hexproof while tapped (attacking) and deathtouch while untapped
  • No card advantage or interaction baked into the commander
  • Vulnerable to edicts and 'all players sacrifice' effects that ignore hexproof

Key Cards

  • Seedborn Muse — Untaps your board every turn, keeping creatures hexproof on opponents' turns while fueling repeated untap and mana abilities.
  • Heroic Intervention — Backs up Saryth against the board wipes and edicts that hexproof can't stop.
  • Quicksilver Amulet — Untapping it with Saryth lets you cheat huge creatures into play every turn.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Classic green finisher that overruns through your protected, deathtouch-enabled board.
  • Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger — Massive mana engine that Saryth can untap for explosive turns while staying protected.
  • Beast Whisperer — Provides the card draw mono-green Saryth decks desperately need to refuel.

Upgrade Path

Add untap-payoff engines—creatures with strong tap abilities (like mana dorks or Arbor Elf with high-cost lands) and effects like Seedborn Muse and Wilderness Reclamation—to convert Saryth's ability into combo or runaway mana. Shore up green's weaknesses with the best protection (Heroic Intervention, Tamiyo's Safekeeping) and card advantage (Beast Whisperer, Guardian Project, Sylvan Library). For higher power, build toward an infinite-mana line using untap loops plus a mana sink like Walking Ballista or Helix Pinnacle, or tighten the curve into fast Craterhoof finishes.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun the table with Craterhoof Behemoth or similar mass pump
  • ▸Repeated untaps enabling an infinite mana or token combo
  • ▸Beating down with protected, deathtouch-equipped creatures over several turns
  • ▸Commander/Voltron damage through a hexproof unblockable threat

Archetypes

  • Big Mana Ramp — Saryth protects and reuses ramp creatures and powerful mana producers to deploy oversized threats.
  • Combo — The {1},{T} untap effect can untap creatures with mana or activated abilities to generate infinite loops with the right enablers.
  • Voltron/Stompy — Hexproof while untapped makes a single big attacker nearly impossible to remove for a commander-damage or beatdown plan.
  • Toolbox Midrange — Untap-and-reuse on creatures with valuable tap abilities turns your board into a flexible value engine.
