The Commander

Vigilance, haste

As Saskia enters, choose a player.

Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, it deals that much damage to the chosen player.

Guide

Gameplan

Saskia is an aggressive four-color voltron/beatdown commander that doubles up your combat damage by mirroring it onto a chosen player. You curve out efficient threats, suit up Saskia or another evasive attacker, and pick the most threatening opponent so every connection hits two players at once. Games close fast: you swing wide or tall, hit a defending player and your chosen victim simultaneously, and use her haste to apply pressure immediately.

Strengths

  • Built-in damage doubling lets a single big swing kill two players at once
  • Vigilance plus haste means she attacks the turn she lands and still blocks
  • Four colors give access to the best removal, ramp, and combat tricks in Magic
  • Punishes the chosen opponent even when you attack someone else, making her hard to race

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on the commander; she's a magnet for removal and you stall without her
  • Four-color manabase is greedy and prone to color screw without good fixing
  • Damage redirection requires creatures to connect, so blockers and fogs slow you down
  • No inherent card advantage engine; can run out of gas after a board wipe

Key Cards

  • Embercleave — Cheap to cast after attacking wide and gives double strike plus trample, doubling Saskia's already-doubled damage.
  • Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh — Stand-in example of cheap evasion; in practice you want trample/evasion enablers, but key here is any way to push damage through unblocked.
  • Xenagos, God of Revels — Doubles a creature's power and grants haste, turning one attacker into a lethal two-player swing.
  • Rancor — Recurring trample makes your beaters unblockable in practice and ensures the redirected damage lands.
  • Skullclamp — Premier card-draw engine to refuel an aggressive board after combat or wipes.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the manabase with fetchlands, duals, and fixing like Command Tower and Farseek to reliably cast four-color spells on curve. Add evasion and trample enablers plus power doublers (Berserkers' Onslaught, Gratuitous Violence) so connections reliably translate into doubled lethal damage, and include protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves to keep Saskia online. Finally, lean into low-curve aggression and a couple of extra-combat effects to convert her damage doubling into one-turn multi-kills.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Connect with a buffed Saskia or trampler to deal lethal to two opponents in one swing
  • ▸Go wide with tokens and alpha strike, doubling each creature's damage to the chosen player
  • ▸Double strike + power doublers (Xenagos, Embercleave) to one-shot the table over two turns

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Loading equipment and auras onto Saskia turns each hit into a massive doubled blow to two players.
  • Aggro / Beatdown — Her haste and damage mirroring reward flooding the board with evasive creatures that all hit twice.
  • Combo — Pairing her with double-strike or extra-combat effects creates explosive, near-deterministic kills against the chosen player.
