The Commander

First strike

Whenever you attack a player, goad target creature that player controls.

Whenever a creature attacking one of your opponents becomes blocked by two or more creatures, that attacking creature gains deathtouch until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Seifer is a goad-centric political commander who forces your opponents' creatures to attack each other while you sit back and pick off the survivors. Attack each turn to goad threats, then use the deathtouch trigger and combat punishment to turn every block into a slaughter. You win by grinding the table down through forced combat, draining life as creatures die, and swinging in once the board has eaten itself.

Strengths

  • Repeatable goad on attack steers aggression away from you and into your opponents
  • Deathtouch trigger makes gang-blocking your attackers a death sentence, enabling profitable swings
  • First strike plus deathtouch on the table makes Seifer a strong attacker who trades up
  • Thrives politically in multiplayer by weaponizing other players' boards against each other

Weaknesses

  • Relies on opponents having creatures to goad; struggles against spell/control or token-light tables
  • Only goads one creature per attack, slow to dismantle wide boards alone
  • Mono-creature-removal of Seifer shuts off the engine entirely
  • Can be low on direct reach if forced combat stalls out
  • Needs to attack to function, exposing you to crackback if goads are misdirected

Key Cards

  • Disrupt Decorum — Mass goad turns the entire table's board against itself in one cast, supercharging Seifer's plan.
  • Grenzo, Havoc Raiser — Adds a second per-attack goad and value, doubling down on forced combat.
  • Bloodthirsty Blade — Cheap repeatable goad you can shift onto the biggest threat each combat.
  • Disrupt the Blade — Goad anthem effects keep creatures attacking; pair with punishers.
  • Blasphemous Act — A cheap board wipe to cash in after combat has weakened everyone.
  • Sword of Vengeance — Gives Seifer evasion and protection so he keeps attacking and triggering goad.

Upgrade Path

Add more anthem-goad and mass-goad effects (Disrupt Decorum, Grenzo, Marisi-style steering) plus punisher payoffs like Vicious Shadows, Bloodchief Ascension, and Hissing Miasma so forced combat actually drains life. Tighten the mana base with fast rocks and add a couple of board wipes to convert weakened boards into lethal swings. To push power further, lean into an aristocrats finish with Blood Artist effects and Pitiless Plunderer to monetize the carnage your goads create.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Punisher pingers like Disrupt the table while goad keeps creatures swinging
  • ▸Equipping Seifer for evasive first-strike deathtouch beatdowns

Archetypes

  • Goad / Forced Combat — His attack trigger goads every turn, the core of a pillowfort-aggro political plan.
  • Aristocrats — Forced combat kills creatures en masse, feeding death-payoff drains and value engines.
  • Group Slug / Punisher — Pair goad with damage-on-attack effects to bleed the table while they fight.
  • Voltron-lite Aggro — First strike plus deathtouch makes Seifer a fearsome equipped attacker.
