BuildCard details

The Commander

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player adds {G}{G}{G}. Until end of turn, they don't lose this mana as steps and phases end.

Guide

Gameplan

Shizuko hands every player {G}{G}{G} at their upkeep, so you build a mono-green deck that converts that free mana into board presence faster and harder than opponents can. You snowball with big creatures, mana sinks, and payoffs that punish the symmetry, then close with overrun effects or a giant beater.

Strengths

  • Effectively gives you three extra green mana every turn cycle, accelerating into huge threats early
  • Mono-green keeps the deck consistent and cheap to build while leaning on green's strong ramp and stompy payoffs
  • The mana persists through phases, fueling instant-speed plays on others' turns and political deal-making
  • Pairs beautifully with X-spells, mana sinks, and 'whenever you tap a land/produce mana' triggers

Weaknesses

  • Symmetrically ramps every opponent, often handing combo and big-mana decks the tools to beat you
  • Mono-green struggles with interaction, removal, and answering noncreature threats
  • Commander does nothing the turn it lands and adds no board presence itself
  • Vulnerable to being out-valued if you can't out-spend the table with the shared mana

Key Cards

  • Helix Pinnacle — A pure mana sink that turns Shizuko's symmetric green flood into a near-unanswerable alternate win.
  • Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx — Converts your heavy green devotion plus Shizuko mana into explosive, asymmetric ramp.
  • Genesis Wave — A massive X-spell that dumps your library onto the battlefield using all that extra mana.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — The classic green finisher that ends games once Shizuko has fueled a wide or large board.
  • Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger — Breaks the symmetry by doubling your green mana while taxing everyone else's.
  • Omnath, Locus of Mana — Stores the unspent green mana you generate and turns it into a lethal body.

Upgrade Path

Prioritize cards that break Shizuko's symmetry—Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger and mana doublers like Nyxbloom Ancient and Mana Reflection—so the free mana benefits you far more than the table. Add efficient mana sinks (Helix Pinnacle, Walking Ballista, Finale of Devastation) and protection like Heroic Intervention and Veil of Summer to survive the inevitable removal and faster opponents. Tighten the curve with green tutors (Worldly Tutor, Green Sun's Zenith) so you reliably convert early acceleration into a closing threat before rivals capitalize on the shared mana.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede alpha strike
  • ▸Helix Pinnacle reaching 100 mana for an alternate win
  • ▸Voltron commander/big-creature beatdown via trample and pump
  • ▸Mana-fueled combo loops (e.g., Staff of Domination, Umbral Mantle untaps)

Archetypes

  • Big Mana Ramp — Shizuko's free {G}{G}{G} each turn lets you ramp into game-ending green bombs ahead of schedule.
  • Stompy/Voltron — The extra mana powers out and pumps a single huge creature for fast commander-damage kills.
  • Combo — Mana-hungry infinite engines like Staff of Domination or untap loops are easier to assemble with constant green income.
  • Group Hug — Shizuko inherently gifts mana to the table, supporting a politics-forward, deal-making playstyle.
