BuildCard details

The Commander

Flanking (Whenever a creature without flanking blocks this creature, the blocking creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn.)

Whenever Sidar Jabari attacks, tap target creature defending player controls.

Guide

Gameplan

Sidar Jabari is a mono-white background/partner-eligible commander who turns combat math in your favor: he taps a blocker every time he swings, and flanking punishes anything that does block him. Build him as a Voltron threat or as the commander of a wide aggressive deck where his attack trigger neutralizes a key defender and his evasion lets equipment and auras close games. Turn to turn you ramp into protective equipment, suit him up, and attack while taxing the opponent's best blocker.

Strengths

  • Free repeatable tap effect on attack removes a blocker every combat
  • Flanking makes him hard and unprofitable to block
  • Low color requirement makes mono-white consistency and partner options easy
  • Great Voltron carrier—cheap to recast and naturally pseudo-evasive

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white means no card draw or interaction depth without heavy support
  • No built-in evasion to push through if opponents have multiple blockers
  • Tap trigger only handles one blocker, weak against go-wide defenses
  • Voltron strategies are vulnerable to removal and getting blown out for tempo
  • Lacks recursion or protection in his text—commander tax punishes removal

Key Cards

  • Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof and haste protect your Voltron investment and let Sidar attack immediately.
  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands and strips a card on hit, snowballing Sidar's connections into more plays.
  • Smuggler's Copter — Cheap evasion and card filtering that fixes mono-white's draw problems while crewed easily.
  • Skullclamp — Premier mono-white-legal card draw engine to refill in token and aggressive builds.
  • Reconnaissance — Lets Sidar attack, tap a blocker, then untap and remove him from combat to dodge damage.
  • Inspiring Veteran — Anthem and Knight tribal payoff that buffs Sidar and his fellow Knights.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and protective equipment (Lightning Greaves, Sword of Fire and Ice, Batterskull) to make Sidar a resilient one-shot threat. Lean on mono-white's best card advantage (Skullclamp, Welcoming Vampire, Esper Sentinel) to beat the color's natural card-disadvantage, and consider a Partner/Background to add a second color for removal and draw. Tighten the curve with cheap tutors like Stoneforge Mystic and Open the Armory to find your equipment consistently.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a fully equipped, evasive Sidar Jabari
  • ▸Swarming with Knights and anthems while Sidar taps the best blocker
  • ▸Combat damage triggers from swords/equipment grinding opponents out

Archetypes

  • Voltron — His flanking and attack-tap make him a low-cost, evasive carrier for equipment and auras.
  • Knights Tribal — As a Human Knight he slots into white Knight aggro with lords and anthem effects.
  • Aggro/Go-Wide — His tap trigger clears the way for an attacking team to push damage each turn.
  • Stax-lite — Mono-white access to taxes and hatebears slows opponents while you grind out combat damage.
