BuildCard details

The Commander

Beast spells you cast cost {2} less to cast.

Each other Beast creature you control enters with an additional +1/+1 counter on it.

Whenever Slinza or another creature with power 4 or greater enters, you may pay {1}{R/G}. When you do, Slinza fights target creature you don't control.

Guide

Gameplan

Slinza turns big Beasts into a discounted, snowballing tribal army that fights its way through the board. Ramp into Beasts early, drop creatures with power 4+ to trigger repeatable fights, and use the +1/+1 counter anthem to make everything bigger and more dangerous in combat. You win by overwhelming the table with oversized trampling Beasts while picking off blockers and threats via fights.

Strengths

  • {2} cost reduction makes expensive Beasts come down a full turn or two early, generating real tempo
  • Repeatable fights from Slinza and any power-4+ creature double as removal and combat tricks
  • +1/+1 counters synergize with counter payoffs, proliferate, and combat damage
  • Naturally goes wide and tall, making big swingy boards that are hard to race

Weaknesses

  • Fight relies on Slinza surviving, so commander removal shuts off your removal engine
  • Creature-heavy and light on interaction, vulnerable to board wipes
  • Fighting into deathtouch or pump tricks can blow you out
  • Limited card advantage outside of Beast tribal payoffs, can run out of gas

Key Cards

  • Krosan Tusker — Beast that smooths draws and ramps, cheap with the cost reduction.
  • Wild Pair — Each Beast you cast fetches another creature with matching total stats, snowballing the board for free.
  • Curse of the Swine — Premium removal that also makes Beast tokens benefiting from the counter anthem.
  • Inkmoth Nexus — Counter-matters synergy and a sneaky infect win when stacked with +1/+1 counters.
  • Branchsnap Lorian — Cheap power-4+ Beast that trample with built-in evasion to enable early fight triggers.
  • Vivien, Monsters' Advocate — Generates Beast tokens, fights, and card advantage, perfectly on-theme.

Upgrade Path

Lean into the fight trigger with deathtouch enablers and pump (Bow of Nylea, Basilisk Collar) to turn every fight into removal, and add proliferate (Inexorable Tide, Evolution Sage) to abuse the counter anthem. Improve card advantage with Garruk's Uprising, Beast Whisperer, and Guardian Project, and add finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth and Pathbreaker Ibex. Protect Slinza with Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves so your fight engine keeps running.
