BuildCard details

The Commander

When Sophia enters, create Tiny, a legendary 2/2 green Dog Detective creature token with trample.

{1}, Sacrifice an artifact token: Put a +1/+1 counter on each Dog you control.

Whenever a Dog you control deals combat damage to a player, create a Food token, then investigate.

Guide

Gameplan

Sophia is a go-wide Dog tribal aggro deck that turns combat damage into a snowballing engine of Food and Clue tokens, which you then sacrifice to pump every Dog you control. Deploy cheap Dogs, swing in, and convert the artifact tokens you generate into +1/+1 counters that make subsequent attacks lethal. The deck plays as a value-driven aggro-midrange build that grinds out card advantage while building an unstoppable board.

Strengths

  • Self-fueling engine: combat damage makes artifact tokens, which fuel counters, which make damage hit harder
  • Built-in card advantage through repeated Investigate and Clue sacrifice
  • Resilient go-wide board that's hard to fully sweep
  • Tiny arrives free with the commander, giving immediate value even if Sophia is removed
  • Bant colors offer premium protection, ramp, and counterspells

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on Sophia and combat connecting; board wipes set you back hard
  • Dog tribal lacks the raw payoff density of more supported tribes
  • The pump ability is mana-hungry ({1} per activation) and needs a steady token supply
  • Flying or evasive blockers and fogs can blunt the combat-damage trigger
  • Aristocrats-style drain finishers are limited compared to dedicated lists

Key Cards

  • Pack Leader — A cheap Dog lord that grants menace, making it far easier to connect for the Food/Clue triggers.
  • C.A.M.P.O.S. / Wandering Companion-style anthem — Anthems multiply your go-wide damage, but specifically Dog lords like Rin and Seri amplify the whole board.
  • Rin and Seri, Inseparable — Doubles as a Dog payoff that drains life whenever Dogs enter, giving a non-combat win route alongside the tribe.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles every Food, Clue, and Dog token you create, supercharging both the engine and the pump fuel.
  • Skullclamp — Turns your stream of small Dog tokens into a relentless card-draw machine.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Every token you create stacks counters across the whole board, turning the Dog swarm explosive.
  • Intangible Virtue — Buffs your token Dogs while granting vigilance so you can attack and defend simultaneously.

Upgrade Path

Add token doublers (Anointed Procession, Parallel Lives, Doubling Season) and Dog lords to multiply both the engine fuel and the payoff. Lean into sacrifice value with Skullclamp, Ashnod's Altar, and aristocrats drains like Zulaport Cutthroat to create redundant win lines that don't rely solely on combat. Tighten the mana base with Bant duals, fast ramp (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet), and a few targeted protection pieces (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection) to survive board wipes.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Pumping the Dog team with +1/+1 counters and swinging for lethal trample damage
  • ▸Going wide with anthems and Dog lords for an overwhelming alpha strike
  • ▸Draining the table with Rin and Seri or aristocrats payoffs off repeated token creation
  • ▸Out-valuing opponents with Investigate/Food card flow until you find a closing spell

Archetypes

  • Tokens / Go-Wide Aggro — Sophia spits out Dogs, Food, and Clues, and the pump ability rewards flooding the board with bodies.
  • Tribal (Dogs) — Every relevant ability cares specifically about Dogs, so tribal lords and payoffs slot in naturally.
  • Aristocrats — You generate a constant supply of sacrificeable artifact tokens, enabling sac-outlet and drain synergies.
  • Artifact Tokens / Value Midrange — Food and Clue generation pairs with token-doublers and Treasure synergies for a grindy engine deck.
