BuildCard details

The Commander

Bird creatures get +1/+1.

{1}{W}: Target Bird creature gains banding until end of turn. (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding a player controls are blocking or being blocked by a creature, that player divides that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)

Guide

Gameplan

Soraya is a mono-white Bird tribal anthem that buffs your flock and hands out banding for combat trickery. You flood the board with cheap, evasive Bird tokens and bodies, pump them with anthems and Soraya's static +1/+1, then swing through the air for lethal while banding lets your fliers eat blockers for free.

Strengths

  • Bird tribal is heavily evasive (flying), making damage hard to block
  • Cheap 3-mana commander that immediately improves your whole board
  • Banding gives surprising combat dominance and protects key attackers
  • Mono-white access to strong tribal anthems, equipment, and protection

Weaknesses

  • Narrow tribe—Bird support is shallow and many payoffs are mediocre
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your token-heavy battlefield
  • Mono-white struggles with card draw and ramp
  • Banding is rules-complex and offers little against fliers/reach blockers
  • Low-impact ceiling compared to modern commanders

Key Cards

  • Esper Sentinel — Top-tier white Bird that solves the deck's card-draw problem while benefiting from anthems.
  • Storm Herd — Mono-white finisher that makes a massive flock of buffable Bird tokens in one shot.
  • Coat of Arms — Stacks with Soraya for an explosive tribal anthem that can end games out of nowhere.
  • Akroma's Memorial — Gives the whole flock flying, haste, and protection, turning the board into an immediate kill.
  • Smothering Tithe — Premier mono-white ramp/card advantage engine to fuel the go-wide plan.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your fragile token army from the board wipes that prey on go-wide decks.

Upgrade Path

Prioritize fixing white's weaknesses with card advantage (Esper Sentinel, Smothering Tithe, Welcoming Vampire) and resilience (Heroic Intervention, Flawless Maneuver, Teferi's Protection). Lean into anthem stacking (Coat of Arms, Door of Destinies, Intangible Virtue) and global haste/evasion enablers, then add efficient token producers so a single attack closes the game before a wipe resets you.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide flying Bird swarm pumped by Soraya and stacked anthems
  • ▸Overrun-style alpha strike with Coat of Arms or Akroma's Memorial
  • ▸Token flood from Storm Herd into a lethal aerial attack

Archetypes

  • Tribal Aggro — Soraya anthems every Bird and the tribe is naturally evasive for fast, wide beatdown.
  • Tokens — White excels at generating Bird and creature tokens that Soraya and anthems supercharge.
  • Voltron-lite — Banding plus equipment lets a single buffed Bird attack profitably and survive blocks.
