The Commander

Web-slinging {W} (You may cast this spell for {W} if you also return a tapped creature you control to its owner's hand.)

Guide

Gameplan

As a cheap mono-white commander, Spider-Man, Web-Slinger leans on its Web-slinging mechanic: by bouncing a tapped creature you control you can recast Spidey (and other web-slinging cards) for a single white. You churn out efficient white creatures, attack early, then recur enterprise ETB value and rebuild after board wipes while pressing damage in the air.

Strengths

  • Extremely cheap to cast and recast, making it hard to keep off the board
  • Web-slinging turns tapped attackers into repeatable ETB and bounce value
  • Mono-white gives access to the format's best tax, protection, and go-wide tools
  • Resilient to board wipes since you can rebuy creatures to hand

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white has notoriously weak card draw and ramp
  • Bouncing your own creatures can slow your board development
  • Lacks built-in evasion or a closing punch without support
  • Vulnerable to creature-based control and removal-heavy decks since the plan is creature-centric

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Solves white's card draw problem and pairs with cheap creatures you can rebuy and resacrifice.
  • Flickerwisp — Blinks and repositions creatures, amplifying the value of bouncing and recasting ETB threats.
  • Swords to Plowshares — The premier cheap removal to clear blockers and protect your tempo plan.
  • Brave the Elements — Protects your board and pushes through lethal in a mono-white aggressive shell.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each recast creature stacks counters, snowballing a wide board into a lethal alpha strike.

Upgrade Path

Add white's best card advantage (Welcoming Vampire, Mentor of the Meek, Esper Sentinel) and ramp (Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt) to fix mono-white's weaknesses. Lean harder into a payoff engine—Skullclamp plus token makers, or a blink package with strong ETB creatures—so each Web-slinging recast translates into tangible advantage. Top it off with protective interaction like Teferi's Protection and Flawless Maneuver to survive sweepers and close the game.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide creature swarm pumped by anthems and Cathars' Crusade for an alpha strike
  • ▸Repeated ETB value engines grinding opponents out of resources
  • ▸Commander damage with equipment and protection spells in a Voltron pivot

Archetypes

  • Blink/Value — Bouncing tapped creatures to recast them repeatedly reuses enter-the-battlefield triggers.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — Mono-white excels at flooding the board, and the commander adds resilient recursion.
  • Aristocrats — Cheap rebuyable creatures feed sacrifice engines like Skullclamp and altars.
  • Aggro/Tempo — A one-mana recurring body backs a fast, evasive white aggressive curve.
